Choice between factory installed 3-point or Snap Coupler started with the D series and continued through at least the 190. We had Snap Coupler on our WD-45, D-15, and 190. Had a semi-mounted Snap Coupler disk that we used on either our WD-45 or our 190. Started switching to 3-point with a John Deere 2020 that replaced the D-15. Our last Allis was a 190XT with a 3-point.

I have only seen a couple Snap Couplers in person. Which did you like better, the Allis or the Deere? Thank You

@@LedgemereHeritageFarm I'm an Allis fan. D-15 was my favorite.

At the 2:47 mark in this video is a picture of a 2 bottom plow that is exactly why the 'implement hitting the operator' thing happened. It is a pin-hitch plow that someone 'converted' to snap coupler but only did half the job, pretty common! The lift arm links need to be changed also, that is the telltale sign.We see this way more often than a person should. I know one guy who should know better that has a 3 bottom just like this he plows with every fall.

Snap couplers were widow makers. People got killed because Allis was too cheap to pay royalties for the right to use the 3 point.

I’ve heard that from a couple people. I guess it happened very quickly? Thank You for watching

In my knowledge and experience with them, the only time something like that happened was due to damage or excessive wear on the coupler hands. In the event the tongue came out of the bell the coupler hands would release the implement. Problems came from bent or poorly maintained coupler hands that prevented them from opening. Similarly a worn, damaged, or improperly adjusted 3 point can let the implement swing into the tire and climb up into the seat. I have a friend who almost got crushed by a disc that way. I would personally take a snap coupler over a 3 point any day.

It wasn't that Allis was too cheap, Ford had an exclusive deal with Ferguson for the 3 point setup so everyone else had to come up with their own ideas. Some weren't bad, some were terrible. In the end everyone switched to the 3 point.

Neighbor's son was on a WD45 with a snap coupler and trying to pull out his father's stuck Fordson Super Major Snap coupler broke reared back on top of him crushing his leg. We had a Series II D17D with a snap coupler. You tolerated it but was only around for a couple of years until it was traded back for a new 175D with a 3 point. @@dylanbywater9955

@dylanbywater9955 I also believed part of the bad reputation was the older style bolted on the lift arms, the later ones used the clips. The intention was if the hitch pin broke thwy would come up qnd unclip. The "safety soultion" in the older style was to put a saftey chain on, but I think the damage was done.
