My mom is a “butter mom” but I also grew up with an “almond aunt” so imagine the complexity of that 😅

🥜 this is as close as we can get to an almond. Like you mentioned, almond moms were constantly getting hit with magazine and paparazzi photos of celebs that were outrageously skinny when they were growing up. And the culture seemed so toxic back then that of course they would want to police their daughter’s food to ensure them “success”. It’s sad and I’m hoping that the almond daughters can break that cycle.

I'm sorry mom and aunt Julia for being an almond daughter. I'm sorry for some of the things I said to you and the way I criticized you because I was insecure and projecting. I was embarrassed by my "hillbilly" family and thought I could look better and be smarter by trying so hard it was practically killing me. I can't expect women in their 40's to have the same body type and fitness level of someone in their 20s. Who knows how I'll look when I'm 40. Probably not that much different than my mom at that age. Mom, Julia, and anyone else I've hurt by my actions, I love you just the way you are and I promise not to be fat phobic like that again. Sure, my upbringing wasn't perfect, but you all at least never policed my eating. It was the outside CULTure that made me this way. But the mindset change and emotional growth has got to come from within me, as a continual practice of identifying my biases and my privileges and thinking before I speak.
