"You can always just do what John Mclaughlin did and play F# minor pentatonic in the most unhinged way possible"

There is a Mahavishnu Orchestra transcription book that has most of their catalog written out. I'd definitely recommend picking it up.

The unison line at the end took me so long to learn - the speed of the original recording is so intimidating

Just discovered this song through a random Tim Pierce video. Instantly hooked. As a huge Opeth fan, I am pretty sure that they stole some of the harmonic language for "Wreath". I am definitely stealing some of this for my progressive death metal music. Thank you so much for this lesson.

This is amazing! Even though you value having almost no talking in this, I actually think that’s the best part. Very insightful commentary that helps with understanding the concepts behind the riffs. Thanks

More proof of the Genius of Mclaughlin !! And for the Kids, Don't try leaning Mclaughlin or Fripp when you begin playing Lol And Music is really Math, for your mind and fingers in this realm so study !!! Lol : )

Nice! Should talk about what scales you would choose for each chord.

Great ! However, I find it easier to play with the thumb on the low E, like John does I think.

Excellent video. I hope you keep posting this type of lesson, especially the Mahavishnu Orchestra pieces.If you were to post these with some kind of regularity I would gladly support you on Patreon. Maybe others would too?

Thank you! I’m planning on doing more videos in the near future. I’ve been at home with a toddler and a newborn, and have been recovering from a wrist injury over the past few months, so it’s been busy! Fortunately my wrist is all healed up, and my toddler is going to school next month, which should, in theory, give me more time to put together lessons.

I really like this. But I wish it had the chords even on the solos. I enjoy watching videos like these and thinking about the theory aspects of it. But I'll take what I can get. Thanks.

what guitar effect /tone do you use in the arpeggio?
@flyingvguy6833

5 + 5 +2 =12, that means 2 sixes(listen to Cobham), and slowing it down is even harder to play well(Ask Jaco). You can't play slow trills(because a trill is it's own constituent), same here. Obviously the so called notes are correct, but I'm sorry we are not wind up clocks. Referring to the Chord Arpeggio Pattern of course.

Areyou gracy….ok it’s very complicated cord structures…..but with your detuned guitar it’s the hell…..has nothing to to with Mc Laughlin’s music…..
