Final part of the trials & tribulations of following an old railway line as close to the track bed as possible, the segment followed is the former LSWR line which served Bere Alston, Tavistock, Okehampton and joined the mainline at Exeter St David's. After some drama in EP3 this final part should be relatively straight forward as we approach Tavistock through a series of rock cuttings, (which has very much been the profile of this line). Before we reach Tavistock a mine is passed (within feet of the track bed), followed by more rock cuttings before the line raises up onto a large viaduct approaching Tavistock North Station.
At the end a final assessment of what the line may become in the future, proposals have been around for over a decade to restore this line, giving a vital alternative to the vulnerable 'South Devon Railway' along the coast at Dawlish (a short segment of that line is shown in rough weather).
