Your alpacas are taking the rain very calmly. I saw a video of a mass stampede of 300 alpacas for shelter jus ahead of a hailstorm in Alberta Canada. One left her new born cria behind and he had to be dried off and warmed up in the house with the dog and cats. When the storm was over he had to roll in the dirt before he found his mother again. Happy ending...this time. His mother was experienced and came back for him. Look for A to Z Alpacas on KZitem. I want white alpacas to the horizon too but my friend with the money has more pedestrian ideas about how to invest his millions. He is the Same Steve Wood who has rescued animals for 54 years that I told you about. Rescue not overloaded.

Great story Brook...They all slept outside in the nighttime, heavy rains. Unexpected for sure. Blue had a jacket, but the other two cria (at 3 weeks) were soaked, but unaffected.

Rain! What a blessing after a long dry summer! The cria are experiencing something new today! Does the rain help clean their fur, or does it just make it muddier and more dirty?

Yes, Miriam. I threw some grass and clover seeds down, overseeding -- with the hope of replenishing the areas rooted by the wild boar. After the rains, everything feels much healthier.

Steve Wood is looking for a new home away from hurricanes. He hopes to have just a few alpacas again: an intimate group, certainly not numbers and strangers. I provided him with some money to help buy them. He spoke of getting registered show alpacas but I think he will be happier to adopt some children's pet alpacas from the "performance" classes of big shows. They will probably come cheaper and their present owners will be happier to have him adopt their pets which they can't keep for some reason. The pets will be halter and trailer broken and more accepting of physical affection, just like the show "seedstock". They might also fulfill his innate desire to "rescue" animals. His wife was the one who adopted Shadow and Carmella, thinking their yarn would bring her good money; now she does not want to adopt more livestock after they move. Dolly Llama will go with them, wherever Steve moves; the new alpacas will be a herd and a comfort to lonely Dolly. Sometimes I think Steve loves Dolly more than he loves his wife now.
