An NHS hospital has advised staff to avoid describing babies as "born male or female" and instead use "assigned male/female at birth."
The guidance from James Paget University Hospitals Trust aims to promote inclusive language, as outlined in its ‘Celebrating Pride’ document.
The guide includes an LGBTQ+ glossary and advises staff to avoid phrases like "ladies and gentlemen" and "homosexual," suggesting alternatives like "everyone" and "gay" to be more respectful.
It also discourages using gendered terms such as "mailman" or "fireman."
