From the shores of Lake Lucerne to the top of nearby Mount Pilatus, we also visit the old city of Lucerne. A boat ride takes us around Lake Lucerne, past small villages and from there we take the Glacier Express from Andermatt to Zermatt. The Lion Monument in Lucerne carved into rock is a most spectacular carving as Mark Twain described it as "the most mournful and moving piece of stone in the world". A cog railway takes us from the village of Zermatt to Gornergrat to see over 20 alpine peaks towering above 13,000 feet, and above all, the Matterhorn at nearly 15,000 feet.
