On one hand I can afford this on the other hand it's tragic to see such structure in such sorry state of decay and dismay

What a shame. 😢 A 4 year old boarding house left to deteriorate into a pile of sticks. It's nice that there are still people who look after the telegraph station, though! 🙂

It is crazy to think that it only got used for that 4 years. I guess the fact that it stood up for 40-50 more years until it fell over is a testament to good craftsmanship!

Everyone should consult Jason Rose's site "Rio Grande Explorations." He supplied photos of his hike to East Portal and up to top of Alpine Pass, with view to ruins at Alpine Tunnel Station. Wonderful fall colors. Thanks again, Jason! I'm heading out to Colorado this September.

Thank you, thank you for your interest in this amazing railroad, your video work, your family, who accompanies you on these magical trips back in time, and ....for sharing your work with old and new fans of the C&S.

Thanks, Mark. I'm so delighted that others like yourself are enjoying it. That makes it a joy for me to create. I'm glad you enjoy my family's appearances as well. I love that they have gotten to enjoy this "train stuff" with me!

Thanks to you for the fine recording effort, and to those who worked to restore historic elements for the Alpine Pass. This is one rich part of Colorado history unknown to most.

I agree. I'm so grateful for all the preservation efforts at Alpine Tunnel. I don't even know who is responsible for many of them.

Thank you for the video of the Alpine Tunnel area. Been up there many times over the years since the 1960's, and have watched it slowly go down hill. I am glad some people make the effort to restore old structures. Been inside both ends several years ago and find I appreciate those times as I love historical sites. I am from the BV area and plan to return this area this summer for more exploring of this area.

I went there last year to see the Palisade rock works for the roadbed. At the time, the whole excursion was on a whim; so I was surprised when I saw the station restored. Amazing work preserving an amazing rail lines history. Need to go back again.

And the good news is that several grants have been received to begin work to repair the Palisade wall in the summer of 2022 I believe. Hopefully, access to the station complex at Alpine can get many more visitors again.
