my god. this series fits so well with HS2, specifically that Jake has the power to potentially steer the entire narrative. Think back to Homestuck^2's first chapter, not the prologue with Dirk, but the first page of the story proper. Who's the first character to be reintroduced? Jake, in the seemingly irrelevant Candy timeline. Jake's prescence as the Page of Hope is the sole reason why Candy is allowed to rise back into relevance. And you recorded this audio years ago!!! Amazing. EDIT: EVEN FUCKING HIVESWAP!!! Jake Harley is the one who bought the Cherub Portal slash neglected Joey Claire! He put that plot into motion as well!

Your videos are far and away the best analysis of homestuck I've ever heard. I have watched tons of homestuck video essays but not until I binged your videos have I gained such supremely deeper understanding of my favorite piece of media. Your videos really are something special, especially after the blueball for part 3 in this video :(. I'm happy that you found a passion for making math videos instead of letting this channel die. Just please know that if you ever reawaken your passion to talk about homestuck on here again, there will always be those eager to listen :^)

My take on the page is that the page is akin to the summoner. Early in any games, summoners don't have access to their summons and are near useless at best they are a shitty white mage, at worst they are an active liability. However, once they obtain their summons, they are an absolutely unstoppable force, and by that I mean theirs summon is. It's easier to understand in collide. If you are paying attention, jake doesn't take out a single member of the felt homself, rather a convenient ally comes and removes them from the story. It is as if the narrative itself is protecting jake. It is just as contrived as gamzee's plot armor but as hope is the aspect of cohesion, it's much more subtle about it's protection of jake.

thank you a lot, these videos are incredibly insightful and -- even without the video -- endlessly entertaining. you've taught me a lot about story writing and basic platonic philosophy very efficiently. keep doing what you do, this is insane and a lot of people love it. honestly you should be a lecturer or something (if you aren't), a lot would love to learn about this.

Hey idk if you're at all still interested in homestuck these days, but Im curious, how do you feel about OD/Wakraya's interpretation of the classes, their pairings, and active/passiveness?
@lordbuss

1:34 Rogues and Thieves were too. Also, the destroyer classes are actually harder to analyze, because you never know - their actions represent the aspect, or it’s destruction? 2:44 It isn’t. It’s just a bullshit story he made up to feel cool and Hope that things have meaning. 4:37 I think it is closer to Rage 7:10 I partially disagree. Rage is conviction and limitation of perception. So being sure you know what should happen and being disappointed is Rage. And Gamzee doing weird surprising things that don’t make sense is destruction of Rage, AKA our ability to understand what is happening. 13:38 Like the meteors, that literally appeared in the story because John and Dave talked about them.

Jake's power is literally believing in something sooo much that something becomes real. I'm also going to very quickly argue that Jake's ability to control the direction the story takes isn't unique. John's recon powers gives him a terrifying amount of influence *if* he ever learned to utilise them properly. And then there's Aranea who can supposedly heal doomed timelines.
