Nice video Amy, I am curious how this camera performs compared with Zwo294MC

In my opinion it is a better camera than the 294. I had both, got rid of the 294. But that is me. Mileage may vary.

@@AmyAstro Thank you very much for your input. I used until now a dslr and planetary cameras, but i think is time to upgrade to a cooled astrophotography camera. looking at the specs on altair website I can not find the QE of the sensor, but if you say that it performed better than the 294mc pro i think it should ahve good qe also like higher than 80 percent. What do you think?

Hi Amy, Greetings from a sunny London U.K, yesterday I just ordered my first astro camera, the AA 296C , it should arrived at my work place sometime today, I was watching your video on the camera, I'm very excited, I hope I get better imaging from bortle class 8/9 skies, as it's too warm for my Canon 600D camera to take long exposures. Anyway thanks again for your video, clear skies 🙂🌠

@AmyAstro

I'd recommend darks to get rid of warm pixels / fixed pattern noise. Flat to get rid of dust. The jury is out of use of BIAS and being debated at length in the Altair Facebook group.

Hi Amy, I see you use the 269c with SGP, could you tell me what are the gain settings ect in SGP , I know they differ depending what capture software you use. Thanks, Keith , Durham UK....BTW: the video's are brilliant!
@AmyAstro

Thank you so much! First be sure you are using the newest driver for the 269C. Altair is not a fan of ASCOM. They prefer we use the native driver, which SGP does not let us do. With that said. I use a gain of 5 in SGP for the Altair Camera which equates to Unity gain. :) I had to contact Altair for this info when I first used it. Hope this helps.

I've just bought this camera form Altair at kelling Heath star party & managed a quick first light with it, I did try to stack the images in DSS but its not finding any stars tried different settings in dss still the same but you stretch the fit files & all the data is there. I do think I had the gain setting to high but I don't think that would have caused to much an issue with the data but then I am new at using a cmos camera, another thing I found was in the Ascom driver the gain setting said one number & in NINA it were completely different all a bit confusing for me at the moment
@AmyAstro

This a common issue with DSS it doesn't stretch to 16bits automatically so the image appears dim. www.altairastro.help/info-instructions/faq/why-does-the-image-appear-dim-compared-to-other-cameras/

The gain question: Gain of 1.0x in AltairCapture is 100 in SharpCap. Gain of 2.5x in AltairCapture is 250 in SharpCap. In most astro programs just multiply by 100. So 100x = 1.0x brightness increase.

There is a new ASCOM driver out for the camera. Check the Altair website for it. I was using Sequence Generator Pro. In the setting window Gain is at 5 (equated to 500 in sharpcap), Black level at 21, USB speed 2, Conversion Gain-High ASCOM driver version 1.4.134.0 Hope this helps. The raw image did not revile much, but the stack popped. This was a learning curve. Hang in there.

I took a bunch of exposures last night and loaded them in to DSS and used the stretch to see what data was there and I have data tdd a. However when I go to register it says it doesn't find any stars. I only get this with the Altair camera. Never had this happen with my QHY camera. Is there something different about the Altair files? DSS doesn't see the data.
