Great video, I did have trouble taking the alternator out after unbolting all bolts since the space is so cramped. I found out that by taking out the big black hose that transfer the coolant from the radiator to the engine really help open up the space. Just disconnect the end of the hose that goes to the top of the radiator, you will loose tiny amount of coolant, but make the job of taking the old alternator out and dropping the new alternator in much easier.

If they awarded the Nobel prize for mechanics this guy should get it. Saved me hours. FYI this also applies to the 2005 RX330 w/ tow package (130Amp alternator). Only difference is that the tensioner bolt is a 12mm instead of 13mm.

I just replaced the alternator on a 2006 RX 330, and I had the worst time getting the 12mm bolt through the tensioner block and into the alternator. I ended up taking out the 14mm bolt and doing the 12mm first. It ended up being a lot easier for me that way.

Yeah. I’m doing it now. It’s a nightmare getting the bottom bolt in. I cross threaded it and gave up for today. Going to try again tomorrow. I was using the 14 mm to hold up the alternator while I tried to get in the bolt, but my tensioner bolt is all rusty so moving it is a pain in the ass.

Good video. This alternator is not unlike other removals and installations, but it does appear to have a manual tensioner as well as the typical spring loaded belt tensioner. One thing I would add is starting with disconnecting the battery. Fail to do that and you'll burn up a fusible link as soon as the cable you disconnected from the alternator touches anything else metal on the car because that lead goes directly to the battery. Dead short.

I was told that bottom bolt doesn't need to come out as it's for a bracket. Do you know anything about that?
