Late to the table and just subscribed, sometimes we overlook the things we can use, and a good imagination can help but being thrifty is the way to go, after all the fishes cannot tell if a fly was tied with the best AAA grade hackles or something basic. I think it is a case of designing stuff to catch the angler's wallet in most fly trying emporiums.

I agree, some of what I see tied seams wasteful and like most things anymore it is designed to catch your wallet. If you want to you can also give Temu a look for some fly tying materials they seem to have a pretty good selection and at very cheap prices.

@@thewoodenflyllc7591 I have recently been converted to Temu and have some lures and fly tying stuff from the site. At first, I was sceptical, but after a few deliveries I am won over.

Just crawled a Michels and found beads, chenille, scissors, tweezers, wire cutter pliers and storage boxes and thread. Going to see how the tying materials work.

It's amazing what you can find at Hobby Lobby and Walmart. I'm retired, living on a limited fixed income (i.e. poverty) So getting the most for my buck is paramount! I've bought big bags of feathers for $4 that would have cost $50 in a fly shop. You have to pick and choose materials a little closer, but it is much cheaper. The fish don't care where you bought it! Do yourself a solid and check it out.

This is making me excited to tie flies. I've put it off because of the initial cost. I'm happy to find that flys can be made from cheap craft supplies.

I don't have any videos on fly tying earnings as of yet. I don't really make that much tying flys, my client base is just simply not bigenough yet to have any kind of income on it. However, I do enjoy tying/fly fishing and I enjoy helping others out that want to learn. Thank you!

I live in Arkansas!! Which region? Do you ever go the Little Red?
@thewoodenflyllc7591

During my childhood I lived in Southwest Arkansas out of Murfreesboro where I originally learned how to fly fish from my dad. When I graduated HS I moved to Russellville. When I lived in Russellville I would go up and fish the Little Red. However, I mostly fly fished for bass, crappie, and sun fish when I lived in Arkansas. Now I live on the planes of Colorado where I continue to fly fishing for Bass, crappie, sun fish and now carp and trout.

@thewoodenflyllc7591

Yes, I can. I keep hoping that I will get some time to make a video on what I tie using those craft store supplies. Just to let you know some of what I tie: sunfish patterns that require foam, as well as mouse patterns, poppers, sliders, gurglers, chubby chernobyls, and I will also laminate the foam together with 3m spray adhesive and make bodies for Moorish Hoppers and such.

What kind of thread is that ...and how does it compare to regular fly tying thread
@thewoodenflyllc7591

There is a variety of thread types and thread thickness. The only time I notice a difference is when I am tying small stuff like zebra midges and I need the thread to lay as flat as I can get it.
