The paradox of Schrodinger's cat is a fucking hassle, Schrödinger's cat: a cat, a flask of poison, and a radioactive source are placed in a sealed box. If an internal monitor (e.g. Geiger counter) detects radioactivity (i.e. a single atom decaying), the flask is shattered, releasing the poison, which kills the cat. The Copenhagen interpretation of quantum mechanics implies that after a while, the cat is simultaneously alive and dead. Yet, when one looks in the box, one sees the cat either alive or dead, not both alive and dead. This poses the question of when exactly quantum superposition ends and reality collapses into one possibility or the other. Basically Schrödinger was a paradox until the souls inside Alucard were observing him, taking his paradoxical soul and winking out of existence. By the end of the episode Alucard had killed all of the other souls observing him, bringing the paradox back into question, causing him to exist again. Sorry if this explanation ran a bit long.

Schrodinger only exists if he's aware of himself. Alucard consumed Schrodinger, so Schrodinger is now a part of him. But since Schrodinger is now lost amongst the millions of other souls inside Alucard, he can no longer recognize/distinguish himself, so he ceases to exist. And since Schrodinger is now a part of Alucard, Alucard ceases to exist too. This is why Alucard had to get rid of all the other souls inside himself until only Schrodinger remained, which allowed him to become self aware once more and return.

Just a bit more info on the souls thing: Everything you said at the first part of the episode is correct, but there's one last part that ties it in together: in his normal state, with all of those souls "inside" of himself(for lack of a better word), Alucard is FUNCTIONALLY immortal(although not ACTUALLY immortal). What happens is, any time he "dies", he lets one of those souls die in his place, and he continues on. As long as he has spare souls, he can't really die, unless you kill him more times than he has souls. When he releases restraint level zero, that lets him unleash ALL of his power, AND set all those souls free in order to fight for him. He can literally call forth an army to fight for him in a moment, and that's exactly what you saw in Episode 8. However, that DOES have one major drawback: when he sets all those souls free, he no longer has them to protect himself against death. With all his restraints released, he is both at his most powerful AND his most vulnerable: he has no restrictions at all on the power he can use, BUT if he is killed while he has no other souls on hand, he WILL actually die. That's part of what he's referring to at the beginning of the episode: Yes, the Nazi army pushed him far enough that he had to release all his souls to match and win the fight, BUT they also massacred millions of people, leaving millions of souls there for him to take, to replenish the stock he just lost. And THAT was part of the Major's plan: once Alucard had "won", and he started putting those restrictions back in place, the first thing he would've done no matter what was take back in as many souls as he could. And by having Schrodinger kill himself and throw himself into the mix, he was able to(as said in the episode) "spike his drink". Schrodinger's paradoxical existence was absorbed by Alucard, and shared among Alucard and all the freshly absorbed souls, causing Alucard to lose enough image of himself that he literally couldn't hold himself together.

So the thing with Dracula's ex-wife is a reference to the book "Dracula." He (Dracula) apparently changes Mina Harker into a Vampire, which is the impetus for the original Hellsing, Jonathan Harker, and co. to hunt him. At the end, Dracula is apparently killed (in this show he's captured), and Mina returns to being human as a result. Here, the Nazis exhumed her body and used her bone marrow, which apparently retained the vampirism somewhat, to create their army. This is also why Integra calls the Nazis "fake vampires" at the end of Episode 5. In the original show, in Episode 1, it's explained that vampires can only turn virgins of the opposite gender into vampires. This is why it was possible for Alucard to turn Seras, for instance. However, anyone else drained by a vampire will become a ghoul. Furthermore, if the vampire that originated the ghouls dies, so do all the ghouls they created. Starting with the couple that Alucard and Seras kill at the beginning of Episode 1, however, something odd happens: no-one drained by the vampires attacking England becomes a vampire, not even children, who we all hope would be virgins (but with what we know now about some people...). Furthermore, during the incident where Alexander Anderson was introduced, Alucard and Seras are killing ghouls created by a vampire that Anderson had already killed! So the vampires behind the attacks are not normal vampires. This is what lead them to suspecting a group behind the attacks. The vampires created by the Nazis are different from normal vampires, hence, "fake vampires."

1. In the original , the effect Schrodinger had on Alucard is explained better. Its established with Seras that having blood offered is more effective than taking it, so when Schrodinger cut off his head and willingly offered his blood to Alucard, he absorbed and took on his essence and by extension his ability. The problem is that being everywhere and nowhere is alredy a mind boggling ability, but here its amplified by the 3 million souls he has. To cut a long story short, Alucard's mind literally couldn't keep up. 2. In the original Walter is the one to kill the Doctor and then willingly burns to death. A more fitting death in my opinion 3. The actual ending is leaps and bounds better than the original, where very little actually changed, Alucard killed the souls inside him, but kept Schrodinger's ability and some of his powers. Here , Alucard was actually FORCED to become more empathetic towards others and become better as a person. Fun Fact: The number of souls Alucard had in this episode was the amount of subscribers TFS had at the time.

So basically the original shrodingers cat was both alive and dead in the box at the same time until it was observed, at which point it was basically a 50/50 chance of whether it was alive or dead. Shrodinger the character in this show was like that, whenever he died he was only dead until people stopped looking at his corpse. Also he could technically be anywhere, whenever he wants, so long as no one knows where he is at the moment. When Alucard absorbed him, that uncertainty became certainty, and shrodinger became a part of Alucard. Then it was a 50/50 chance of whether or not shrodinger (and by association Alucard) was real or nonexistent, because he was being observed. This is what the Major meant when he screamed “I called heads!”. His plan literally hinged on a coin flip.

If you thought he would take vampire blood, then you don't understand the Major , simple as that, and here's what you need understand about this parody, team four star went somewhere completely different than where the actual story of Hellsing went. The Major was just about war , pure and simple, none of this heavy handed philosophical shit TFS tried to pull off , and despite his use of vampiric soliders, he hated the idea of becoming a vampire himself, and from the moment he encountered alucard back in WWII, he hated him , cause he was the opposite of alucard in every way. he almost died in WWII in the fight against the Soviets ,but was saved by the Doctor, however shortly before this he was tempted by the same offer alucard was given, and refused, because in his eyes his will is his own, and could not bare to have to share his soul with the will and voices of others . His plan was to annihilate alucard from existence and prove that humans were superior to anything else on this earth by killing someone who should have been impossible to kill, alucard. tfs also made some changes to the story at this stage, Henkel doesn't actually get to kill Walter , just wounds him and gets humiliated again for her troubles ,and Walter goes inside to kill the Doctor, as opposed to the tfs version of him dying due to the round ricocheting through the Zeppelin , kinda irked me a little bit that he gets killed by her rather than redeeming himself somewhat by turning on his co-conspirators and making sure that they will not rise again and make more vampires, effectively fulfilling his duty one last time as a vampire hunter and completing the mission he was given 50 years ago. All in all Hellsing ultimate abridged is funny and astonishingly witty , but it abandons alot the deeper story, lore and motivations of its characters to achieve alot of its laughs , especially towards the end when some better context would help, and personally I recommend everyone interested in Hellsing watch all ten volumes of the ova or you will be confused as much as House Garrett here is or more by what goes on.

7:37 I don't really get it entirely myself. This cat character, Shrondinger, is some kind of Nazi experiment. The name of course is a reference to Schrodinger's cat, a famous metaphor for quantum physics. The idea is that if a cat is placed into a box with a nuclear isotope and the lid closed, you are uncertain if the cat is alive or dead until you open the box. There are certain effects on the quantum level that register as both a wave and a particle and to determine which they are you have to isolate and observe it. Helsing is taking the concept in a weird direction. Essentially, this cat character kind of....exists and doesn't exist, I guess. He's in a state of flux, which allows him to survive being killed and gives him some ability to teleport and blink in and out of existence. Alucard absorbed his blood, which gives him the same powers, but since he can't control the power he blinks out of existence. That's my best understanding. Its a weird idea and only kind of makes sense even in context.

The thing with the Major being a cyborg actually stems from the end of WWII. He was shot and left for dead and the blood of his fellow soldiers started coming towards him much like how Alucard was absorbing all of London. To consume a thing is to know (become) a thing. After all, everything you eat is what makes up your body. And Schrodinger's cat is a theory on possibility, where you don't truly know if something is dead or alive unless you can see it and confirm its death. So when you are a soul that can only be confirmed dead when you are in sight, and you now have over 3 million souls that can see your soul, you are pretty much always visible. So honestly, he can't consume any more souls else his next death will be visible as long as there is another soul there to see him. But that also means that he has a new form of immortality where if he is ever out of sight, he goes back to 100%, even if he hits 9% hp.

The explanation from the original show is different from this one (although both involve quantum physics and the Schrödinger paradox). To be simple: In the original show, the explanation didn't make quite as much sense, but the major's plan had 100% chance to succeed as long as Alucard absorbed Schrödinger. In the Abridged version, they made the explanation make more sense and be more logical when compared to actual quantum physic, but that means that the Major's plan only had 50% chance to succeed which is why he says "I called heads", he could have done all of this for nothing (and even then it was only a temporary victory, but he doesn't care, he died before Alucard came back anyway).

LOTS OF THINGS TO SAY!!! 1: Schrodinger's cat is a paradox theory where the scientist Schrodinger placed a cat in a box along with a cup of poison and theorized that because we couldn't see if the cat drank the poison we can't know if the cat was dead or alive therefore the cat was stuck in a paradox between life and death until you pick up the box and see for yourself. Even in the original anime and manga it's hard to explain what the Major did or what Schrodinger's powers are except that Alucard always existed as an undead being, as in someone who was dead yet alive and the only reason he could exist was because he recognized himself as being alive thanks to all the lives of the people he's consumed, but when he drank Schrodinger's blood he was no longer able to recognize himself from all his souls and faded into nonexistence until he was able to reduce himself back to being one person so he could recognize himself again. He lost his #lifehack permanently but gained Schrodinger's paradox powers which now makes him even more unkillable than before. 2: You missed the corporations are people too joke how when the corporations literally took over they changed the name of the Americas like Integra telling the Catholics to go to America Zero after failing to find info in America Classic. America Classic is North America and America Zero is Canada, that's why the one guy said he missed Canada... makes you wonder if Mexico was called America Lime. 3: YOU MISSED THE FINAL CREDIT SEQUENCE!!! Those had the outakes for the final episode and they are all so hilarious! That was the reason everyone wanted you to keep watching till the end for the last few episodes!!

Not his wife. The Doctor and Millennium obtained the remains of Mina Harker (the woman Dracula was obsessed with and turned into a vampire) during World War 2. Because Mina was still a vampire when she died and was one of the few people Dracula turned into a vampire - AND drank Dracula's blood, Millennium was able to use her remains to create their fake vampires aka "freaks"! By the time Millennium and Iscariot waged their "Crusade and World War Three", the only thing left of Mina Harker's corpse was her skull, spine, and ribcage... :(

Mostly correct on Alucard. He basically was playing Mario with 3 million lives. Death has no meaning when you have that many second chances. Alucard: Oh? Was that a fatal wound? Well then Soul number 65826, your turn to die.

I haven't seen anyone comment this but 3,708,912, the number the major said was the souls Alucard was consuming in London was the amount of subscribers TFS had at the time

Basically Schrödinger's cat remains alive and dead at the same time for as long as it remains unobserved. The character in the show Schrödinger works with the same principle. Since Alucard consumed him, and since he has so many souls, Schrödinger within Alucard is now observed. If Schrödinger dies now, he remains dead. Since he is dead when he's consumed that means he will remain dead within Alucard. Now that wouldn't be a problem, if it would be just Schrödinger which would be dead, but since Alucard consumed him, he is now Alucard's part, and the death extends to Alucard and by that I mean, the entirety of Alucard (all of his souls) as well. That results practically in death of Alucard, but he still exists somewhere between existence and nonexistence due to nature of Schrödinger. Due to this, Alucard is capable of getting back by anihiliting every soul within him making only Schrödinger stay. That makes Schrödinger unobserved and that makes him alive and dead again. Fun fact: This has one major outcome for Alucard though which many people don't realize: Alucard is now more OP than ever, but he is incapable of consuming any soul. That means that Major basically won against Alucard. Even though he'd prefer Alucard dead entirely, he is at the end of the day just against him being a vampire, being something less than a human (vampires in the show basically don't have their own will once they consume someone's soul since then their character gets mixed up with the other soul meaning their will is the will of several souls). Since Alucard can't consume any soul, he is forced to be just him which results in him having his own will alone, and that means that by Major's definition he is not beneath humans.

This is a copy of a comment explaining the majors plan, When Alucard absorbed Schrödinger he didn't exist. Because when he consumed Schrödinger it was the same as always observing him. And as long as he was observed, he couldn't change his state from existence to non existence or vice versa. The flaw in the plan is that when he "observed" Schrödinger's, he could take on any of two state: Existing or not existing. If he had been lucky and Schrödinger had settle on "existing" then nothing would have happened and Alucard would have been fine forever. That's why the Major says "I called heads" because it was a bet. After all the Major did, the only plan he found to beat Alucard still had 50% chance to fail. What seem to have happened at the end is that Alucard absorbed Schrödinger powers so that there were his own, and then proceeded to "purify" every soul within himself so that at the end there was nothing looking back at him (including himself as he seems to have gotten rid of his guilt-induced schizophrenia and have forgiven himself) so now he has the power to be everywhere and nowhere as long as he's not observed by anyone, he doesn't even have to absorb souls anymore.

Google Schrödinger’s Cat. It’s an awesome experiment in quantum physics. Once you understand the cat you’ll understand what happened to Alucard.

In the abridged series, it was explained in terms of quantum physics. Schroedinger has the power of quantum superposition provided there is no observer. Basically his powers are schroedinger's cat, and Alucard eating him opens the box, collapsing the wave function one way or another. Either Alucard would go on existing, or not.

So, basically, Schrodinger's cat is both alive and dead at the same time, as long as no one observes it. Alucard, by consuming him, is observing him. Thus, Schrodinger and Alucard who absorbed him must become one or the other, not both. The "coin flips" and one kinda just happens. It ended up being dead/doesn't exist, so Alucard ceases to exist, hence the major "calling heads."
@TheVergile

The short of it is: Schrödingers cat is a famous thought experiment. It describes a situation where a cat is both dead and alive but it is impossible to tell which is true unless you open the box to check. The act of opening the box and checking flips a coin. Before the cat was in a state of uncertainty - now it is certain, i.e. either dead or alive. Alucard consumes Schrödingers cat and thus opens the box, flips the coin - and the Nazis were betting on the 50/50 result. They won the bet (they called heads) and alucard died/disappeared. It was pure chance. Later on - by expelling all the souls in him (by therapy, weirdly) he also expells the part that is Schrödingers cat and thus returns.

I honestly think Abridged got it a bit reversed. They seemed to imply that it was Schrodinger becoming "known" by Alucard that made him disappear. If this were true, he wouldn't have come back after removing all the other souls. Schrodinger's power gives him the ability to exist wherever and however he wants as long as he is self-aware. When he becomes part of the millions of souls that Alucard consumes, he loses his self-awareness in the ocean of other souls and can't maintain a singular state of being. So it's not that being absorbed by Alucard collapses his wavefunction, it's that's being absorbed makes him *unable* to collapse his wavefunction. That's why Alucard removed all the other souls until it was just he and Schrodinger. With just the two of them, Schrodinger regained the ability to distinguish himself and by extension Alucard could manifest once again.

All the other Nazis were either vampires or werewolves so they could still be fighting fit in their 90s, but the Major insisted on staying human, so to still be young-ish, he cyborged himself. Alucard himself made a big deal about how monsters don't kill monsters, humans do that (it's why he was so angry when Anderson gave up his humanity to fight him).

9:07 Sort of. In the show they are using Mina Harker, one of the protagonists from the novel Dracula. She gets bitten by Dracula in the novel and they have to hunt down and kill Drac before Mina dies or she will become another vampire slave of his. In this comic, obviously Dracula didn't die, so Mina does become a vampire. And apparently the Nazis built their army by harvesting her marrow and presumably implanting it into their soldiers or something.

BTW. The Major was a cyborg because he wasn't willing to become a monster in order to beat Alicard. He wanted to remain human. And as he said, even with implants, it's no different than a pacemaker or hearing aid. He's still human and he kept his "humanity".

In my opinion, Alucard never purged Schrodinger out of his body, after all, he still has Schrodingers uncertainty powers. I think Schrodinger intentionally hid himself, including his soul into a borderline between existence and non-existence and thus it couldn't be purged. The reason Alucard disappeared is due to the number of souls he has. He was essentially trying to find himself in a crowd over 3 million strong. This also means that he wouldn't need to purge 'every' soul. Only the ones that would be used in his owns place in case of a death. So once Schrodingers soul was the only one left, which couldn't be located, it was only his own soul left that he could find. But after finding his soul, he also had to come to terms with his own existence in order to exist once again.

Schrodinger's cat is a thought experiment wherein it is proposed that if you were to place a cat within a sealed box the state of the cat would at that moment become a paradox. Is the cat alive? Is the cat dead? The thought experiment proposes that the answer to the question is simultaneously both, and neither all at once. Until the cat is observed, it is both alive, and dead within the box. Giving a perception of uncertainty. Loosely. In the context of the story, they're basically pronouncing that since the character Schrodinger is himself paradoxical in existence by allowing him to fuse with Alucard they are forcing Alucard to open the box and become paradoxical himself. When Alucard stops and suddenly asks himself if he is a bad person, he then poofs away, suggesting that moment of uncertainty in himself has ticked over making him both exist, and not exist in the same instant.

Ok since you wondered about the whole cyborg thing. It was hinted at in the original series that the Major WAS offered the chance to become a vampire after their defeat in WW2, however he rejected the chance. He didn't want to give up his own humanity, then as he was dying, he encountered a german scientist who offered him the opportunity to be rebuilt into a cyborg. The major thought that this was a way to still live while still remaining human. Remember how he was comparing himself to a man with a pacemaker and the like. Thus he became a cyborg with human will

To explain the cyborg thing, it goes back to the war. The Major was dying and had a chance to partake in blood to save himself and become a vampire. But he refused. He wanted to win by human hands and so by cyborg augmentation, he could be more or less human to kill Alucard. After all, it takes a man to kill a monster. That’s his motivation in the original series at least.

the major's plan was to erase alucard from existence, since killing him will just send him to hell for a while, then he comes back again like when he was killed as dracula and when he was killed as tepes. but it did not work and alucard still came back, with a more powerful ability which makes him literally unkillable. that ability allows him to exist anywhere he wants, even inside people's minds. thats the ability which makes him a top tier characters in fiction, because nobody can really kill him, not even erasing him from existence will kill him. so basically he has the ability to not be killed, and he can absorb the souls he killed and make them his familiar, for example, if he kills superman, then superman fights for him.

The thing with the Major as a cyborg gets into the root of his views of humanity; the reason Alucard became a vampire is because he was willing to take any offered pathway to him, when he was killed his soul opened itself up to become a 'castle' for other souls and became the lord of that castle or a true vampire by the series standards the Major on the other hand had that same option when shot and left for dead at the hands of the Russians but rejected that pathway hanging onto his singularity his own Will and remained human. To continue to fight Alucard he couldn't survive all those years so the good doctor replaced pieces of him till only one human thing remained: his Will. So by the end it was the idea of only a human can kill a monster and the Major can only be viewed as a human cause he kept that one piece of himself... or something along those lines. Been years since I read the manga or watched the series. If anyone can correct me or expand upon this have at it.
