4K views of the beautiful Alum Bay. Its located on the far west point of the Isle of Wight near the extraordinary Needles rock formation (see The Needles in separate video). Alum Bay is famous for its chair lift ride down to the beach offering spectacular views along with its different coloured sandy cliffs. There are various sand shops at the top offering glass ornaments decorated with all the different coloured sands in various patterns. For any visitors who do not want to use the chairlift there is a stair walk way down to the bay which will also offer spectacular views of the area. Once you are at the bottom the bay there are many peaceful areas to get away to as you walk along the shore line which offerings breath taking views of the cliff formations and The Needles rock formation.
There is easy parking to Alum Bay at the top of the cliffs with lots of shops, cafes, sand shops etc. You can also hike along the cliff top areas to a far off point to view The Needles (which are also visible as seen in this video from the chair lift ride and from the beach). The beach areas also offer slow boat and speed boat rides to get close to The Needles (see separate video). The scenery around Alum Bay is simply incredible. Back in the day before holidays abroad were the norm, this is where people came to for their holidays. Many a child would have visited the Isle of Wight with family or during a school trip and part of that adventure would have been at Alum Bay.
Historically this area used to be visited by Queen Victoria (whose residence - Osborne House - was on the Island - see separate video). Old maps of this place dating back to the 16th Century indicate that its possible a Chine existed at Alum Bay which has since eroded away. Marconi also used the area to do his testing on wireless/radio wave technology towards the end of the 19th Century.
