My mother started having strokes 5 years ago. The 4th stroke caused her to lose her sight in her right eye. She found out she had/has diabetes. She lost her toe. It was almost healed and it got infected and she became septic. She was in the hospital for 2 months and ended up losing her right leg. They took her leg off below the knee. Put her in a rehab/ nursing home. Was there one week and had to take her back to the hospital and then they took it off above the knee. The vascular doctor had planned on doing a procedure the 1st week she was in the hospital, where he was going to put a stint in to open up a vein so she could get better blood flow to her foot, so she wouldn't lose her leg. They kept giving her IV fluids which was causing her not to be able to breathe. The fluids was pressing on her lungs and her heart. They took her down to do the procedure and the doctor said I can't put her to sleep like this. I said, I knew this was going to happen. But if you put her back up there on that floor I better not have another doctor come in the room and ask me what's wrong with my mother...!!!!!! I told him this was ridiculous...!! She was not supposed to he breathing like this!!! He said, let me call a pulmonary doctor in here and let's put her in ICU. She was having pulmonary heart failure. We were in the hospital for 2 months. Now my mother is having the same signs as having dementia. All of my mother's father's brothers and sisters have died from dementia. Just last week one of our cousin's died of dementia and she went down hill real fast. Her father died of dementia just 2 years ago. It runs in our family. That doctor my mother has is worthless. They don't listen. We've tried to tell her and she doesn't care as long as she's getting her money. They're saying go get check early...?!! We've tried to tell doctors and they don't listen. Before my mother started having strokes we tried to tell her doctor and she told us once it starts there's nothing we can do about.
