@@russiancommy Because validation is incredibly important. See Apple straight up lying on benchmarks. And Nvidia and AMD stretching the truth on benchmarks. Look at the Sennheiser HD 650, from a very reputable and respected brand and yet they list two different frequency response numbers on the product page. 10 Hz - 41,000 Hz and 12 - 41,000 Hz. Also frequency response should be represented as a graph with the frequency compared to the dB, nowhere to be seen from Sennheiser. Manufacturers cannot be trusted and for consumers to just blindly accept everything their told by manufacturers would just be stupid. This is an incredibly important step for Linus Tech Tips. They already do a lot of work similar to this but with less automation, less standardization, no published testing methodology, worse tools. This brings more in-line with companies like Gamers Nexus and Rtings, the second of which is a company that exists solely for testing and validation and yet they continue to run.

This whole LTT labs thing seemed kinda overkill to me at first, spending so much money just to double check specifications that are already out there, but I think I'm starting to get why the industry needs a trusted 3rd party with the means to collect and present every possible data point in an unbiased way. When it comes to headphones and IEMs it's the third parties like Crinacle who perform the majority of public frequency response measurements. Basically it's thanks to his years of work measuring and reviewing audio gear that manufacturers now collab with him despite him technically not being an audio engineer. LTT audio lab is going to be a second large source of public FR measurements as well as a good source of other important data as mentioned. I'd recommend checking them both whenever you are considering buying audio gear, and checking Crimacle's two YT channels for more information about what are FR curves and how they are measured.

Hi Linus, I work with Fanuc robots daily. Here's my recommendations for a keyboard robot or otherwise: For a keyboard specific robot - I would recommend a Fanuc SCARA or Delta series robot (maybe $30,000-$50,000, not super sure). Extremely fast but must be caged off for technically safe operation. For a general 6-axis robot - I would recommend the time-proven LR Mate series (I think about $40,000). Also a speedy robot, but is a bit more flexible when it comes to applications. It also must be caged off for technically safe operation. For a general 6-axis cobot (human friendly) - I would recommend the CR/CRX series (also not sure but I'd guess $50,000-$60,000). These are "maintenance free" (sounds like "lifetime" motor oil to me but I could be wrong (oh yeah high-performance robots need maintenance just so you know)), slower, but much safer robots. As soon as they detect resistance, they will stop movement immediately. From my experience, companies with the CR/CRX series robots claim that they don't hold up over time. You can repair and service all but the CRX robots listed. So for example, once you're done or ready to replace your robot, you can probably sell for 20%-40% of their original value depending on condition (working in your environment, likely very good condition). I'm neither sponsored nor employed by Fanuc, but I wouldn't complain if they were tryna

As nice as it is to have all the Fanuc LR Mates that we have, and the small ABB (not sure what model) even with an educational discount, these robots cost thousands. I don't know why you would sell a robot in industry though. Unless the factory is being repurposed the equipment should hold up fine, and even if the factory is repurposed, robots are flexible automation. If anyone can give me some pointers as to why producer would sell their robots let me know, I'm very curious.

If everything is good, nothing is cheap. You can't make everything good. You just need to accurately specify its abilities. Cheap is fine as long as it's accurately marketed as low quality

For the keycap tester, it seems like it'd make sense to have the tester also drag across the keys, since that is probably one of the largest contributors to pealing the tops off of the keys.

It’s seriously awesome how many engineers/makers you have doing multidisciplinary work. When they get their testing rigs more refined, is there any chance you’d be willing to make some of their projects open source for your community to learn from? I’m pretty sure you could get some partnerships from other companies (Adafruit, SparkFun, etc.) to help offload some of the costs of the projects and your communities likely have some huge overlap in viewership. Thanks for this awesome video of where LTT is going in the future! Keep up the awesome work!

FWIW, autohotkeys can generally do in game menus fine. It has both color and image matching something in it. Great for detecting what items are in your hotbar, how much amo you have, and how much time is left for reloading. I used it for writing a weapon switching, using, and reloading script which delt as much damage as possible in first few shots and then just kept blasting all weapons as soon as they were available.

This shit is actually wild. The amount of raw data that's gonna come from this is unheard of in the tech space. So keen.

For keyboards, maybe setup a way to test a variety of key switches at once, maybe using a key switch holder or hot swap keyboard, and use r3 or r4 keycaps to keep consistent up & down motion for collecting force data for comparing key switches. It's cool that y'all are going to compare abs double shot, pbt double shot, and pbt dye sub keycaps for wear. I like that y'all are using oil, but maybe use something to simulate sweat as well.

Ohh man, just loved the video the future of ltt, the day that the first video is produced with the lab involved would be a day to remember because it will change how we buy stuff is mind blowing what a chart can help you to decide, the base drop by using a pair of glasses was wild

I really hope these guys find a way to monetize this information so that way this stays alive for as long as I do. This information is important to consumers, having a third party tester that cares about technology as much as the typical tech enthusiast does is such a game changer for the industry. Power to the people.

As a consumer, I'm SO happy you guys are doing this. I really, really hope it pays off for your business in the long run, I'm sure it's at least equal parts stressful and exciting right now. But this is fantastic, this is what we need. The headphones section was such an exciting taste of what's hopefully to come!! I'm SO looking forward to the confidence I'll be able to have buying tech with LTT reviews on my side.

Have you ever thought about entering the industrial machinery space to talk about tech? I've been in the space for about 10 years and I think that the area and youth could be very respondent to the way that LTT delivers news, updates and general excitement of current and future tech. Please let me know if you have any interest. I know I don't really have a presence online but I assure you I do in the industrial space. KCCO and Cheers!!!!

Could you give more details on how "The Lab Video game" was built with the virtual walk through? Or maybe make a video of just that build out. We are in the world of AR/VR, but it is still pretty hard to design a space and get a feel how things will look like with different set ups before it is built up.

I'm about to be a software engineer working with those robots, the Universal Robots from Denmark. I think an UR3e would be sufficient, costs about 25,000 dollars, with controller, programming tablet and the robotarm itself. The UR robots are fairly simple to program and very versatile and can be configured to work around humans (regarding safety).

If you want a fast actuation robot, look into parallel delta robots. And *IF* you want to save money, you can even look into using something like a delta style 3D printer with enough volume and reutilize the current code you have (that's assuming the current one uses G-Code to move around).

Linus, you have already changed the tech space in more ways than you can imagine, but I think that this has the potential to be you greatest lasting legacy. Having a transparent, consumer-oriented product testing organization to evaluate consumer electronics would be a game changer, and I'm really excited to see where this goes.

First thing I noticed when I got my first ANC-Headphones was how much more bass was there, never noticed this because I always wear glasses that I was losing anything because of not fully isolated ears... But I thought: Headphones much expensive, more bass because of price, never connected this to the ANC-function

This is super pedantic, but the B in dB should be capitalized, and you should also add "SPL" in the index of the unit to clarify that you're talking about sound levels. The thing about noise cancellation controlling the amount of bass was super cool to see tho, I had no idea
