The AmaHlubi tribe has vowed to fight for the recognition of its kingship. The issue was discussed when the community met to celebrate its heritage at Qumbu in the Eastern Cape. King Langalibalele the 1st defied the British colonial regime and was banished to life imprisonment in Robben Island, over 145 years ago. The Hlubi tribe is much older than AmaXhosa and Zulu tribes, but their kingship is yet to be recognised by the present-day government. While AmaHlubi settled in then Natal with the Zulu nation, currently they are scattered across the country, making it hard to bestow their kingship.
