This is the first I I never heard of this. Interestingly enough my grandmother was the first person I knew with it died in 1989 also and tried to keep it secret for fear that we wouldn’t love her anymore. She got hers from a blood transfusion in 1982. Just a shame how badly we treat people with diseases. It’s known that when people had cancer in the early times of understanding cancer that just saying somebody had it would be shunned for fear of catching it. I hope we’ve come along way and understanding how things are contracted. My thoughts go out to all the people who passed from this terrible disease.

i was around 11 when i started watching Gunsmoke. along with George Reeves’ Lois Lane, Jeff’s mom in Lassie, women scientists in ‘50’s scifi movies, and Bette Davis, she was one of my models of womenhood. there weren’t that many in those days. Even Syd Caesar had only one woman comedian, Imogene Coca, whom i also loved, but that was the early ‘50’s. i liked strong women even as a kid. there definitely were other woman ‘stars’ in the ‘50’s - Nina Foch, Dinah Shore - but they were my models. Amanda Blake was amazing as Miss Kitty and i knew she and Matt Dillon had a thing. of course, in my early twenties, i realized they really had a Thing going. :) 🌷🌱 i’m sorry to hear she died only ay 60. 🥀

Hope Amanda Blake's estate was passed to her animal charity, per her wishes, rather than to her relatives.

I remember, but had forgot. A lot of people back then got it from blood transfusions not saying that's how she was exposed, but they started scanning for it and that stopped.

We're happy to know that you learned something new about Amanda but at the same time are sad since it's about her death. What other types of video would you like to see?

Grew up watching Gunsmoke. I was always waiting for Miss Kitty & Matt to get married...at least a kiss. Lol Retired now and so enjoy watching the reruns. Amanda was such a beautiful classy lady,/ unlike today's actors. Thank God for my parents, 3 brothers & for growing up in the 50s & 60s. Gunsmoke will last forever....

We never missed Gunsmoke growing up. This actor always stole the scene when she entered the camera view. AIDS is a terrible disease, and it has taken many good people. Thanks

You don’t contract AIDS from visiting Africa. Did she have a “friend” on the side in Africa? Was she injured and received a blood transfusion with tainted blood? Without the answer that last part is pure speculation without a base and could’ve been left out. I do love me some Gunsmoke though and the chemistry with costars and her portrayal as Ms Kitty were aware some to watch.

I really liked Miss Kitty. Looking at these pictures, Amanda Blake was quite gorgeous. It's a shame she didn't have a little girl at least from one of those marriages. A little girl that was as pretty as Amanda. She died too young.

Sadly, her relatives were so greedy that they exposed her cause of death (which she wished to remain private) by contesting her Will. It was her money to leave to whoever/whatever she wanted to leave it to. I hope that they didn't get a penny of it!
