Ir was ABC from February through June 1983. 13 episodes were produced- but the network scheduled only 10 of them.

I agree Patrick. It was the perfect successor to 'Maude' with the same feel and type of comedy at heart. I could never stand 'The Golden Girls' for its lowest common denominator "bathroom" humor that relied mainly on lame sex jokes. Bea Arthur was the only saving grace. It squandered those women. I don't think the wonderful 'Designing Women' would have come about though, without the rival network (CBS) looking to counteract it. They did, with topical, witty and sophisticated writing!!

The carrying and pulling around of mr. Leland Ahern in the second half is gut busting hilarious. Ralph manza was excellent at keeping himself "in character " here (I described it this way as to not give too much away to those that havent seen it yet). Great physical slapstick comedy.

How did I miss this? 1983? Something must have been on another channel that I was hooked on. I just don't remember seeing it...seeing any ads...nothing! Funny stuff...an obvious American Fawlty Towers, but still very well done!

I love this sitcom. Almost every episode plays out like a farcical broadway play. This would have been fun to see on stage. Its smart, fun, fast-paced, well written. Too bad it didnt go farther, but then we wouldn't have gotten dorothy and a successful golden girls.

Wrong he was the reason the series fell. His wimpy accent was too difficult to understand. Later in life rosato flipped out, may have been due to brain damage as many times as he was hit in this series.

Why didnt this last? Better than most of today's shows. I imagine Bea was very disappointed it didnt last and this may have played some role in her not wanting to do yet another hotel sitcom with Golden Palace.
@billgreen1861

No! This has nothing to do with Bea not appearing on the "The Golden Palace" as a regular member of the show. TGP was created because Bea Arthur, wanted to retire and the others were not ready to retire so they moved the show to CBS and changed the name.

This kind of 'comedy of manners' didn't quite fit with the democratizing, evangelical, neo-conservative American culture of the time. It might actually do better today!
