he deserved it. I watched Amani from a freshly drafted rookie to a grizzled veteran. Just a great wide receiver man.

Well-dressed Amani Toomer!!! Great tactician and precise route runner. He made Kerry a serviceable QB for that three year window!!! Jim Fassel doesn't get enough credit for what he was able to do coaching up Tiki, Amani, Collins, and Co.

I still get excited seeing that game winner from 98 against Denver. I still watch that ref waiving it incomplete, then conferencing with the other ref and inside I'm still like COME ON GIVE IT TO HIM! YES!!! even though I know that's what's going to happen. That was a great one. Speaking of which that game winner Toomer caught against Denver in 05 was missing from this reel. That win was a spiritual experience for me. Little baby Eli became a man that day.

Living in Denver since 1991, and being a Giants fan since 1981, they are my 2 favorites. The 1998 one more so because Denver was 13-0 at that point and I had talked up the G-Men all week and Amani made me look good.

I have been an avid Giants fan for over 60 years . Two players who should be in the HOF are Amani Toomer and Tiki Barber. They were the best at their respective positions. They achieved their record setting stats for a historic franchise .
@AngryMutGuy
Жыл бұрын
Toomer is NOT a Hof player. He was good, at times great but never elite. Never made a probowl, never led the league in yards, catches, or tds. He is my 2nd all time favorite player. I know his career like the back of my hand. His best year was in 2002 when he had 82 catches for nearly 1400 yards and 8 tds. If you add his post season numbers to his totals he has just over 10,000 yards and 61 tds. Nowhere near enough to make the Hof. Tiki Barber on the other hand should absolutely be in the Hof and I don't know why he's not. He has 10,500 yards rushing, 55 tds, over 500 catches for over 5000 yards with a 4.7 yards per rush career average. Not to mention 12 more tds receiving as well as his punt and kick return yards. Also the argument could be easily made that from 2002-2006 he was the best running back in the NFL. 2002 1400 yards rushing, 2003 1200 yards rushing, 2004 1500 yards rushing, 2005 almost 1900 yards rushing, and finally in 2006 almost 1700 yards rushing. That's not including all his catches those years either which total over 300 He also has numerous 200 yard rushing games. His only weak stat is his tds and thats because after he got them to redzone they'd hand off to Dayne and later to Jacobs. Had he finished those drives he'd have nearly 90 rushing tds plus the additional yards gained from getting those tds. He definitely without a doubt should be in the Hof. Granted he didn't win a superbowl but the Hof is based on individual numbers not to mention the fact the Giants would've been far worse without him. He played 10 years and 6 of those years were Hof years.

Toomer was such a fantastic player, I was at a few of these games. Loved that catch against the Broncos to stop a possible undefeated season. The old stadium used to get sooo loud, then the seat licenses ruined the environment forever. This clip is missing that tiptoe catch during the frozen NFC Championship in Green Bay, still a great clip tho :)

Seriously, thank you for not cutting this video together with some God-awful rap song that drowns out the play-by-play calls. Toomer was a fine player for a long time with the Giants, and I'm glad he was able to remain a Giant throughout his whole career. I'm sure, barring injury, Odell Beckham or even Victor Cruz will challenge his receiving records, but all records were made to be broken.
@AngryMutGuy

They will have ALOT to live up to if they hope to do that. Toomer has nearly 700 catches, almost 9500 yards and 54 tds. If you included the playoffs its over 10000 yards and over 60 tds. Not to knock Beckham or Cruz but the way the game is today and with free agency it will be hard for them to break his records. Toomer is the only Giant in history with 5 straight 1000 yard seasons. Nobody else has more than 2. Not Burress, not Nicks, not Cruz, not Mannigham. Toomer was great and very underrated. People just dont realize how good this guy was and for such a long time.

As a Giants fan we didn’t have a lot of top tier receivers when I was growing up. I started watching during the late eighties and early nineties but didn’t really start to understand football until the mid nineties when I hit my teens and started playing. I loved the receiver position so I became a Jerry Rice fan and then a Chris Calloway fan. He never had a QB. Some of the worst years of my fandom was watching Dan Reeves and those 3 horrendous qb’s (they don’t even deserve caps). Dave Brown, Kent Graham, Danny Kanell and I’m leaving out a couple of others. Then we started drafting some top notch offensive talent. Toomer, Hilliard, Barber then throw in Fassel, Payton and Fox coaching and we started to make noise. Then they trade for Collins and for the first time, we had a legit offense. Some of the best offensive performances I’ve witnessed were from that group. They were fun to watch, granted the bar was so low, but still, it was a blast. We got murdered by an all time great defense and another god awful qb in Trent Dilfer, but considering what I had grown up with, it was a blast to watch Giants games. It’s too bad they broke that group up because it would have been great to see them get a few more opportunities, but it’s hard to complain too much about the last fifteen years.

He kept the 1996 draft from being a total disaster for the Giants considering how loaded the draft was. They were in danger of whiffing on this after picking Cedric Jones... Not a Hall of Famer but he should have been in the Pro Bowl in 2002.

Angry Mut Guy We share similar experiences. In late Summer of ‘95 pops bought me Toomer’s #18 Michigan NIKE Home Jersey with the yellow tackle twill yellow SWOOSH embroidered on the left or right upper chest area (can’t remember, have to search picture which I still have). My childhood friend flew up north from FL to NYC for Christmas vacation in ‘96, On his last night, I lent him my Michigan Amani Toomer jersey & at the end of hanging out he came to my crib for a few. I was feeling sleepy & told him to place my Toomer jersey on my bedroom desk. I trusted he left it there cause I knew him since the late 80’s, When I woke up that morning I went to hang it up in my closet. I went crazy looking for it; called his grandma’s crib were he was staying & he said he left it on the table. Not long after, he flew back to FL w my jersey. A year later he came clean admitting he took my jersey after constantly denying he stole it & even describing how he did it i.e., stuffing it in his arm underneath his leather jacket. Smh! Moral of the story... Trust NO ONE!
