As a native phoenician, and a die hard suns fan, I just gotta say, that this was the baddest assembled team ever, If they would have stayed together, who knows,, 2005 suns, Joe Johnson, Quinten Richardson, Steve Nash, Shawn Marion, Amare Stodamire ,Steven Hunter,Leandro Barbosa.Best starting five ever....We miss the good times,

Nash, Stoudemire and Marion were all All-Stars that year, Q-Rich was one of the best three-point shooters in the league, and Joe Johnson was considered a rising young star who also averaged 17 points per game. Absolutely fantastic starting lineup. They didn't have any depth off the bench though.

The offensive style is different. He could put up the same numbers if he was in a similar system as he was when he was in Phoenix.

He doesn't put up these numbers because of the numerous injuries he's had since then, age, a slower tempo offense, inconsistent guard play, and a bunch of other reasons.

He cant play like this due to the fact that : 1- Multiple knee surgeries... 2- Age Its the main reason why Phoenix didnt offer him a max contract when he was due to resign. Of course if he had worked on other areas of his game then he would of been more productive then he is now. His whole game was based around being quick and being able to jump over people....he cant do that now so struggles to get points. Dont underestimate fundamental skills to complement the physical talents. Just look at Tim Duncan.......still able to post double doubles at his age and he couldnt jump for shit.

S1576 I'd say it has a lot more to do with his injuries, age, and team than his adaptability. As someone who has seen a lot of injured Stat, he has actually done some solid work on his post game to negate his waning athleticism. Should he have worked to improve his defense and the consistency of his jumper? Most definitely. But, imo at least, the factors of injury and age (which you mentioned), as well as Woodson's mess of an offense, have had an even more detrimental impact on his production.

casualinsomniac Very true. Its such a shame when players like this are reduced to mere shadows of what they once were.

Best line up of SUNS back in 2004-2005 season. They were Overall NO.1 that year. STAT, NASH,MARION,Q.RICHARDSON,JOE JOHNSON. Best team plays & passes I've seen in the NBA. Most exciting team to watch that season. My Favorite PF in the NBA. But worst coach.. M. D'Antoni....Y? Bcoz he tired his players. The wear & tear of the players especially come play-offs time. He was only using 7 or 8 player rotation & NO DEFENSE style. FAST & FURIOUS OFFENSE is the DEFENSE. Was the reason of to many injuries Amare suffered. Then next season they lost J. Johnson who was also one of the main ingredient to their good team chemistry. Amare was'nt able to play that year due to injury & Micro fracture surgery..
