Happy holidays Gary! You inspired me in your first video of the Amaryllis series, to purchase the Red Lion bulb…it’s growing well and should bloom soon. Thanks for sharing your knowledge 🌸🌸🌸

I have had success with cutting flowering blooms and putting them in a vase of water. The blooms last just as long in a vase as the did on the plant but without such height.

Great tip! And a cut flower in a vase is usually more apt to sharing and moving around to be enjoyed by all!, Thanks for sharing.

Excellent video. Thanks for sharing that you do not cut the stalk after the flower blooms. In Texas where should I store the bulb for dormancy?
@SuccessfulGardens1
2 жыл бұрын
Dormancy for amaryllis is drying out or not being watered for about 6 to 8 weeks. In Texas, if you take your amaryllis outside for the summer months, if in pots, don't water the pots, let the leave naturally turn yellow. If you have planted the bulbs in the ground, stop watering that section of your flower bed, easier said then done. Allow to dry in cool area, just don't water for those 6 to 8 weeks. If you cut the leaves off, re start watering by mid October, your bulb should be flowering by Christmas.

This video is very informative as I'm very new to growing Amaryllis. Your Amaryllis plants look really good, especially the Red Lion.

When do you start dormancy and when do you take them in month and out month
@SuccessfulGardens1

I usually stop watering them, to start the dormancy process, mid to late August. I then start repotting them and watering them in mid November.

Loved both videos…took care of 8 amaryllis this year - bought large bulbs and e jumbo bulbs. Am trying to decide if I use a spoilt in my garden to set them n the ground (Michigan)…The plot is in the sun - I live in a enticement community so space is limited. This past year I bought just the bulbs so used potting soil in various sizes of pots. Is there a suggested width from the bulb to the edge of the pot. When they are brought inn in late Sept, is it best to put them in pots with no drainage or can I plant them either way?

Amaryllis bulbs like a tight fit, usually a gap that is no more than a inch or two is best. I prefer a pot with drainage. Thanks for watching and commenting.

Gary, Ever let the flowers go to Seed & Successfully propagate the Seeds? Seems as if it’s a great waste to toss seeds given the potential long term return.

Excellent videos. Thank you from central Texas! Ive been growing amaryllis for 15 years. Gave one to my mom every Christmas, took them home after blooming and planted them in ground and pots. Excellent gifts, especially for elderly. Mom would call every day to relate growing progress.

Do you use the 20-20-20 blue crystals at full strength?

Great question. When I use 20-20-20 for houseplants, i use or mix a half dilution rate.

I have not...I keep saying that I want to, but I look at the room available and knowing that it will take about 3 years, I haven't convinced myself to take the leap. One day I will....

What can I do if I cut the leaves off as well afterr the bloom?
@SuccessfulGardens1
7 ай бұрын
Good question. The leaves should regrow. Might not be as many, but should regrow, I would expose to the best light that you can, be careful not to overwater....and then wait.

Do you throw away the seeds ?
@SuccessfulGardens1
5 ай бұрын
Great Question, and it depends on if you want to allow the seeds to develop or mature. I try and cut off the spend flower blossom before the seed pod starts to develop. This allows for all of the energy to go to the mother bulb vs trying to grow seeds.
