I always feel shivers all over my body when I watch some performers from some specific shows, they just transport you to another world, their emotions and the way they transfer the message is just so clean and beautiful. Hey Sam, thank you for yet another wonderful informative and heart-warming lesson. I wanted to share something I became aware of just now watching this video. The way you talk about voices is making me realise a lot about communication in general, especially in a relationship. You are so gifted in clearly expressing what you perceive and observe and how it makes you feel, in a respectful way that makes the other person feel recognised, in a safe space and heard still - at least that's the vibe I get listening to your explanations. And what you say about being conscious of every choice and behaviour in terms of using one's voice to me also really translates to something we would all benefit greatly in all aspects of life, individually and as a collective: Being conscious and aware of everything we do, say, think, feel... So thank you for that inspiration and the work you do, and for showing up on here. You convey a lot more than just voice lessons 🙏🏻 Warmest regards from Germany 🌻

Your comment about the emotion that’s being projected being important reminds me of something I saw in a Misty Copeland interview in regards to dance. When you go to a ballet, you go to have a holistic experience. If you get too caught up on technique, to the point where it bothers you that something isn’t exactly perfect, then you start missing the point of why you’re watching the ballet in the first place. When watching broadway shows, I’m never once bothered when the actors “mess up” from a technical standpoint, because I’m so invested in the story they’re telling ... I just have a hard time applying that same type of leniency to myself 😅

This is extremely helpful for me, because I'm learning as I gradually increase my range that my chest can be pulled up and forward a bit further than a year ago. I wind up pulling a bit too much weight up to my bridge because I can, but my overall stamina goes down when I do it too much. I figure the more I do it the stronger it'll get, but also I want it to be intentional. I sometimes pull my head voice down and my chest voice feels a bit "small" by accident and I'm trying to get better control on that as well, so this particular upload was right on the money what I needed to hear and pay better attention to. You're a gem, and I really appreciate you being here. Thanks, Sam.

Just listening to you talking about trusting your instrument and just relaxing into it, and it's so true! I was always very conscious about my vocals, as when I was younger someone whose opinion of my voice would always find something to pick on, something i was doing wrong, so I would limit myself to things that were easy for me to sing. A year or two ago, I suddenly lost that fear, and just went for it; I surprised myself so much, and found I could sing things I would never have attempted before. I love the way you explain things in an easily digestible way for those of us who have no technical knowledge. Thanks again for an awesome video :-)

Apart from the fact that I learn so much technically from them I just admire your approach to singing: That singing is communication, that it's all about bringing your voice to a place that you can use it to express yourself, that you need to be vulnerable and try things out in order to really transport a message with your singing. Honestly sometimes watching your videos it feels more like therapy then like an educative video, lol. And I respect that you are putting yourself out there. I saw both Shoshana Bean, and Alison Luff. I must be in the minority of prefering Alison. I love Shoshana but she riffs all over the song as if she is playing Elphaba and not Jenna. Alison just serves the character and song so much better. Shoshana is always brilliant and was amazing in the rest of the show opposite Jeremy Jordan, but I have never cared for her version of She Used to Be Mine, because it feels like a cabaret version to me rather than a reflection of character.
