It’s talking about the HIV/AIDs epidemic that hit the country/continent in the 80s/90s. Matenda is illness. They referring to attending people’s funerals due to them dying from it and etc.

This song came out at the peak of the AIDS Pandemic which affected the whole world. This was a very sad era to humanity. There was hopeless as the disease had no cure. Now we've also faced another pandemic, covid. It's only by the mercies of God .
