I appreciate your respectfulness of my people ( I am Conservative Mennonite and my father is an Amish Bishop) by Not trying to interview on tape. By not showing us close up. Your facts are rather accurate which is very abnormal so thank you for that. Not all you said is accurate but mostly. Sincerely Brook

Good content..how were the Amish able to afford so much land?
@portialancaster3442
Жыл бұрын
When the Amish came to Lancaster County Pennsylvania in the 1700's, they bought raw land from the government at bargain prices. Their descendants now own that land as it has been passed down from generation to generation.

Not only did they inherited the land from their families, they (majority, not all) work and save until they have a good down payment. When a new community is created, they may group their money to purchase large amounts of land, then split the land into smaller portions.

@KJ Frederick: "able to afford so much land"? As Portia Lancaster pointed out is one reason. These folks live very austere lives. Their home have no frig or kitchen to cook with. All their meals are served in the "community building". No TV, no radio and no going into town for movies or other pleasures like restaurants. And no credit cards. Cash only. These folks live well below the standards of spending money that the rest of us do. You too could afford to live in a house with no mortgage if you choose to live like them.

A very nice, if idealistic painting of Amish culture, but it's not for me I'm afraid,I am unbeliever in any sky fairy (of whatever creed) But I suspect that I would finally find peace in an Amish community, providing they accepted an irreligious realist like myself.

A very shallow video of the Amish. Not knowing that Amish attend their district churches every other Sunday is a gigantic tip off that little research was conducted before making this video.

👍 you're so right! Amish culture has nothing to do with German culture... poor poor horses.. here in Germany there is an animal protection law that prohibits abuse that horses are worked down to the bone and send to auction!.... absolutely horrible!

@Lorraine Duan: "they are in disgusting condition". Really, how many Amish farms (or any for that matter) have you visited? Lorraine, you're a "Wooden Philosopher", that is someone who has strong opinions about things they know nothing about. What the Hell do you know about animal husbandry? Or farming with animals. Those horses are treated better than most kids that you grew up with. "but most". Once again you speak like a willfully ignorant person. Really "most"? How about none??? PS: I have visited both the Amish farms and the Hutterite farms. Their animal husbandry is of the best. I was brought up on a farm in New England. So, animal husbandry is something that is a top priority with me.
