Always enjoy your videos so much! Love that set that l bought over 30 years ago, and it still works like a charm. Did you notice that you can take out the insert to get a larger mixing space? That’s at least how mine works; but Caran d’Ache might have changed the design. I mainly used those gouache colours to paint self made puppets from papier maché when I still was a member of a puppeteer group. We used to build puppets and scenery for new productions in summer, and I’ve got very fond memories of that carefree time.

Hi Maria!! It is a lovely, traditional set and no, I didn’t realise the extra mixing space! Thanks a lot for letting me know. It must have been fun to be a puppeteer…have a great week 😀

Beautiful painting. This set is really cool. I love that gray sky you created. I'll try to use my gouache too.

I like to use gouache like acrylic paints...thick. These don't appear to lend themselves to that. Thank you for the review.

You are right Jill! It looks more like an hybrid between gouache and watercolor. Thank you for your comment.

I know artists who use gouache ONLY as watercolors. I guess for the pastel-like colors? Because, if you water it down, it loses its opacity. @@WatercolorElisabetta

This is the first pan gouache review I’ve seen. I have some in tubes, but I’ve been hesitant to put it in pans. I’d love to see more from you on gouache. Grazie!

I recently started experimenting with gouache myself and would love to see you do more videos with it. I've been trying different brands (all artist quality) but I don't think I'm experienced enough to tell the difference. They're all so smooth and creamy. ❤

Hi Mary Ann! The only difference I can tell is with Schminke, which I find easier to rewet….I don’t have a large enough collection to really compare. But I will for sure think of new videos about gouache because it’s so much fun!

Thank you for this review! I just bought this set and haven’t used it yet. I have tube gouache also but I haven’t been brave enough to really delve into it and I feel this set might be a good stepping stone.

Dear Jacqui. I couldn’t agree more!! I love gouache but I hate the inconvenience…this set is fantastic!! You take it out and put it away in a minute just like watercolour. Have fun!!

I have this set in slightly different packaging. Completely different to watercolour and you need different techniques to get the best results. Very good for a very graphic look, and you can mix different shades to get best effects. I was surprised by how good they are as I am a bit of a gouache purist having had a training in using this medium in those long off days before anything digital! Every illustration that was not photographic was done in gouache, posters, advertisements and so much more, and of course animation. So nice in recent times to see interest in gouache reviving, and new uses for it being found. I think of this as a great starter set with no having to mess about with loads of tubes and a lot of waste. Thanks for the great review as usual, this is a very affordable option that will last for a long time and be there to pick up at anytime. Perfect I think too for design uses, cards and invites for instance. I really like your painting btw.

I can see the appeal of gouache. I have never tried it but I follow some artists that regularly paint with it. Maybe one of these days I might give it a go?

Hi! I think it’s a lot of fun and you should have no problem in learning quickly, given your level. However, I find it more tricky that good old watercolour!! But it can be very satisfying.

You can make them easily, but be aware they dry quite crumbly so do try and keep your palette the right way up. The little flat round or oblong ones with no lids are ideal, you never turn them over! You can modify the paint by mixing in a drop of liquid gum Arabic, but it does change the appearance of the final work, usually gouache is very matte.
