It's very interesting to see Theo Kalomirakis give a tour of this theater, which I remember being profiled in Home Theater Magazine around the mid-90s. The theater also got a spread in the book, "Theo Kalomirakis' Private Theaters," published in 1997. This book, as well as "Great Escapes," are lovely coffee table books full of these types of high end, themed home theaters. There are some changes I see from the original theater: the carpet in both the lounge and theater area; the seating in the theater; the screen curtain (was red velvet drapes), and the screen itself (original looked to be only 4:3) - no doubt the projector (original surely would've been a CRT), a/v equipment, etc, as well - I also suspect that the LaserDiscs in the library don't get pulled out too often. :) The book also mentions details regarding the motivation for the theater, which by today's privacy standards would probably be too revealing, so enough on that. In current times, at the end of the day, these home theaters are more about the experience and ambiance of the physical environment rather than the A/V performance, as the price/capability/performance equation of the technology has changed so dramatically over the years. Sure, you can pay big bucks for convenience features like having all your media stored on servers, but it's certainly not required in order to have an enjoyable budget home theater.

If I had a home theater, it would be the most basic and inexpensive (and probably unimpressive) theater you would see. I already have projectors, different size screens and a surround sound system. I can get chairs easily and I can build a riser for a back row of seats easily. I would probably cover the walls with theater curtains for decoration and because I’m lazy and don’t feel like painting any walls. All I need is a room and I would build it. This theater is impressive but...I don’t know man, I may have found one that beats it or at least is on the same level. It doesn’t have the exterior that this theater has or all the awesome lights but the theater itself is pretty awesome with a balcony and a curved 200” screen. They never said how much that theater cost to build but it definitely ain’t something that the average person would have in their house. Not with all the expensive stuff it had.

I did a custom screen that was wall to wall in my basement years back with in wall Def Tech speakers and was very happy with the outcome. Nowadays, I’m happy to stick with a big screen 4K OLED and Atmos speakers. His custom theater is something special to look at but misses out on the point of a home theatre... Which is the actual movie watching experience, it should be immersive and you should feel transported inside the movie.

How is it a shame? It's their money and they either earned it or inherited it. Either way, it's theirs. Maybe this person donates 20% of their wealth to charity every year. Point being, you have no idea about their situation, and shaming wealth just makes you sound jealous. If you don't like where you're at financially, learn to write code or something and make money on the side. There are so many ways to make money in this country, and when someone complains about the rich, it's just petty.

But you can't say what you would do if you had millions. Do you know why? Because you don't have millions. Money changes people. But go make your millions and I hope you do give it back. But when you do, you still can't tell other people what to do with their money. I bet there's someone out there with no money saying "if I made 1500 a week, I would give most of it to people in need." It's all about perspective. Why is it that every time some rich person builds a home theater, it *always* has the same problems! 1. No side speakers and/or ceiling speakers. 2. No multi-subwoofer setup. 3. Fucking tables in the middle instead of using end tables, which means the owner gives up middle seats! 4. Only 2 rows of seats, with either 3-5 seats per row. 5. Lots of decorative/glossy surfaces inside which cause reflections which reduce contrast when you're watching the movie. 6. Small ass screen that's no bigger than the projectors you can buy on Amazon. Even worse is how this owner seems to have wasted a lot of money that he either could have pocketed, or put towards a better screen and more speakers! He spent $30,000 on the carpet... and he spent $400,000 on custom woodwork on the inside. That is $430,000 right there, almost half a million! Then there's the screen cover thingy that can raise up and down to hide/show the screen.. but who cares? Wtf? Plus how much money did that waste too? Of course, there's also the rooms he had built like the foyer and stuff, which is fine but should only be done *after* the theater! The theater is the main attraction and should get the most attention, even if that means leaving out the BS foyer, marque, etc.. Please, can anyone tell me if there are any videos of a home theater that is actually the same size (or almost) as a real theater? Even if it's just on par with the size of a smaller theater. On a side note, anyone else shocked that it _only_ costs $2 million? I mean yes, it's obviously a lot of money, but clearly the owner has to be a multi-millionaire to be spending that money on a home theater. So when you are a millionaire (or especially a billionaire) who has hundreds of millions of dollars, spending 2 is like just buying the latest flagship smartphone. Makes me feel better that if I ever won the lottery or something, I could have a home theater done relatively cheaply lol. Especially since I wouldn't waste money on the carpeting, screen protector, and other BS...
