Wrong version. This version is neutered. They cut out the guitar solos and the rest of Haake destroying the drums. Instead you get the Marilyn Manson visuals. You should check out the drum cam of this one since it has the full journey.

Let me tell of how my mind was blown twice in 2 weeks. There was some group activity for unemployed youth, and we got into music. I had dipped my toes into In Flames, Bloodbath, The Haunted. So this dude recommended Dark Tranquillity - Damage Done album. "Cool" I thought, came home and put it on and.....mind blown. From the start of Final Resistance to the end of Ex Nihilo I was stuck and kept that album pretty much on loop for an entire week. So I return to the guy, with a grin from ear to ear. And he respond with a big smile "Have you heard At the Gates - Slaughter of the Soul?" Check it out" And I did. Mind blown again. My metal life was changed forever.

What I like about Meshuggah is that the guitars are a mirror of what the incredible drums are doing. They're used not as melodic instruments, but as percussive instruments. Absolutely Visceral METAL!!

rofyle Finally! Lol Meshuggah are one of the grandfathers of djent. They've been active since the late 80s. The comedian Bill Burr has talked about seeing them live as being a life altering experience. They're one of his favorites. Devin Townsend penned a line in his song "Planet of the Apes" where he sings "we're all just ripping off Meshuggah."

As far as classification, this kind of music is called Djent. It's characterized by intense polyrhythms. Meshuggah essentially started the whole genre. Another band in the genre is Periphery.

You should check out the band Mastodon! Currently my favorite song of theirs is “Jaguar God” off of their newest album, but they have so many good songs. Their sound has changed over time, as they’re a progressive metal band, and of you want a heavier sound similar to this, you should check out their earlier music. Around the album Leviathan is when their sound started to lighten, but it’s still pretty hard and is most definitely metal! If I were to recommend a song from every album (except remission and blood mountain, haven’t gotten around to those albums yet) they would be these: Off of “Leviathan” - Blood and Thunder Off of “Crack the Skye” - The Czar Off of “The Hunter” - Creature Lives Off of “Once More ‘Round The Sun” - Asleep in the Deep Off of “Emperor of Sand” - Jaguar God

its not death metal lol but its very heavy if not equally. this is extreme progressive metal and these guys started this subgenre of prog. check out Vildhjarta, another very similar band from Scandinavia too. theres also Periphery(whiny vocalist meh). Animals as Leaders(purely instrumental band but lots of melody). Tesseract( very melodic and chill- meshuggah lite) theres also a whole boatload of metalcore bands that switched to this style of metal: After the Burial, Volumes, Born of Osiris, Erra, Legend, etc etc. there all decent too. Meshuggah stand out from them all because theyre masters of the poly-rhythms and grooves. hardly any melody except for a dissonant lead here and there. Vildhjarta is the band that comes closest to them in heaviness and dissonant melody. they also have some amazing creepy atmosphere to their music and they nicknamed their style of playing “Thall” , like Meshuggah and did with “Djent”

Impressive drumming for sure, but this band always bored me after their 2nd album. They've kind of driven this sound into the ground, and then all the copycats randomly showed up and it's now hard to avoid hearing stuff like this all over the metal world. I do dig this song a bit though. They have a funny Wolf of Wall Street clip with this song playing and matching the screams up with Leo yelling into a microphone.
