When Jamari Sanders was diagnosed with an osteosarcoma of the femur (cancer in the thigh bone), his family sought advice from orthopedic oncology expert Dr. Matthew Colman, Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush, and his team. Part of the treatment included removed a portion of his femur and knee joint. In order to provide the natural movement of a real joint and instead of using an artificial knee joint, Dr. Colman replaced his knee with his ankle. This is called a rotationplasty. This procedure -- and Jamari's amazing story -- are explained in this WGN-TV story.
