What is hardboard? Easy to cut, easy to handle, and most importantly, super cheap

We are always looking for a more affordable ways of doing things without sacrificing on quality or appearance. This might just be the perfect way to design a large space that is very affordable.
Everyone has used hardboard in some way or another. If you’ve put together a TV console or any IKEA furniture. It’s that quarter inch board that’s not really wood but not plastic either. I’m really not sure what it’s made of. It might actually be the scrapple of the lumber industry . All the stuff they couldn’t use 🥴
You can buy a 4 x 8 foot sheet of hardboard at Home Depot or Lowes for under $15.
If you don’t have a table saw, no problem. Grab yourself a straight edge and a sharp razor. If you score the hardboard on the shiny side and then bend it, it will snap and give you a fairly clean edge. A little sandpaper may be needed. But that’s it.
We use our table saw because I wanted a bunch of 2 inch strips and 4 inch strips for this design. Since most people have 7 to 8 foot ceilings in their space there’s very little waste if you make your cuts long way. In theory you could get 24, 2 inch strips outt of a full sheet and redesign your entire space with the right placement. We didn’t use glue on the back of these and I don’t know if that was a mistake or not but the nails and the paint will hold this on the wall I believe.
Let me know if you’ve ever use hardborad to decorate your space!
