I am still not fan of Amazon. Taking investors money to sell certain products at a loss just to ruin the competition seems just too douchie for me to forget. Not saying they didn’t play the long game well, but as former vendor on Amazon I can tell you the douchie and slightly arrogant behavior runs deep. I prefer Shopify which btw. Is getting into fulfillment...

I study a lot of great entrepreneurs such as Bill gates, Elon musk and Steve Jobs. Perhaps the most consequential thing I learned and apply to my business was Bezos' strategy of customer obsession. He spoke about how Google is engineering obsessed, Apple is design obsessed. My company is user experience obsessed. Thanks Jeff.

I have to agree. When Amazon raised the minimum wage. My company, a competitor in one aspect of Amazon's business, my wage increased. I made way above minimum wage, but my company decided to increase the starting salaries to $15 which then trickled up to those of us who make way more. Thanks Bezos! God bless capitalist!

I really, REALLY hope there is a part 2 to this for the other side of the coin - the extraction of wealth from legions of small businesses, entire industries put out of business, $2 shaved off cashier wages to fund a 🚀 to Mars, an ambulance on standby instead of paying for air conditioning, pee breaks monitored, and the fact that business becomes much easier when you can print money and acquisitions become free.

Timing is everything. I'm old enough to remember the Sears mail order catalog (sigh) so what Bezos did was not a NEW idea. However with the advances in technology such as satellite nevagatoon and cell phones he was able to take advantage of technologies that didn't exist in the 70' s.This gave him efficiencies which Sears didn't have otherwise Sears would be what Amozon is today. However what he glosses over is Amozons most profitable business center is AWS which everyone from the Department of defense to Netflix uses. The fulfillment centers are no more profitable on a dollar for dollar basis than Ebay. I use Amozon they're like a drug you can't get around buying on thier site. However they and other e commerce businesses all use government satellites which no e commerce business pays a dime for. Couple this with the fact they paid no taxes and thier workers don't have enough time to take a bathroom break and I hold my nose and go ahead and order. All things considered you have to give Bezos his due.He really did build the better mouse trap. He is the archetypal capitalist.

He should have gotten way more shit for stealing tips from Flex drivers. I open with this because no amount of genius justifies this sort of abuse of already poor people. While I am in awe of Jeff Bezos’s business acumen, long-term (TRULY long-term) view, and relentless drive, that got him to build a machine as formidable as Amazon, I cannot help but worry that he will bring his psychopathic philosophy to bear on the rest of the world and in other sectors. While we’d all likely benefit from replacing powerpoints with six-pagers, the Amazon way is that of deep, fulfilling work for a minority and low-paid, robotic, mercilessly monitored gig work for everyone else. It’s unstoppable growth for one company, subsidised by the AWS money printer, and suffocation for everyone else. It’s tax-dodging and shameless beggaring of even more tax breaks from cities and states. Bezos has said he wants to see a population of trillions of people, so that we can birth a million Einsteins. What kind of life the non-Einsteins will lead is not a real concern for him, apparently. “Free delivery” comes at an unacceptable cost. Boycott Amazon.
