i have one question: do you have your music been released as vinyl/cd or download, like on "bandcamp"? i would buy it for sure and with pleasure. and i am very curious about how an whole album would sound like.

I just stumbled across your channel because I searched for "Caustic Volca" and I'm so so very glad I found it ! Very rarely, KZitem connects you with something truly spectacular. It justifies all the mindless ads they force you to watch....

coming back to this from time to time. to me this is one of the most remarkable pieces of audio art (i listen to a lot of electronic&ambient ). the whole setting is so unique and creates such an intently and concentrated atmosphere that lets me listen to it in rotation. like mentioned some month ago: with this i am exploring a phantastic sonic mindtrip. the creativity and sensitivity behind this cannot be praised enough.

Very creative setup. I’m curious about your telephone bells since I’m working on two other telephone mods. These bells usually take high voltage to ring. Something in the 70-90V AC. How are you driving that electromagnet from your breadboard? Some lower voltage square wave?
@SkinnyVampiress
3 жыл бұрын
thanks! I don't remember exact voltages, but I think I used something like 18 volts or so. It was enough to get the electromagnet working, but you need to try it for yourself. If you want to drive it with a simple transistor, make sure you put a protection diode across the coil, like in the relay driving circuit. Or it's gonna fry the transistor. Here I used two transistors instead, in typical push-pull configuration, pnp-npn, emitters and bases together, very basic. I also used a capacitor at the output, to prevent the DC current from the coil, like in an audio power amplifier, but I don't think it's a good solution, it was just very easy to make on a breadboard and I could easily feed a square waves into it. The proper way would be to drive it from something like H-bridge...

@@SkinnyVampiress thanks yes makes sense. I was planning on trying a small power inverter. The comment on the fly-back diode was good. Thanks!
@SkinnyVampiress

@@improziv if your project is not battery powered, then on the secondary side of your transformer you can simply use a voltage doubler or multiplyer (simple circuit with a few diodes and capacitors) and have about 20-50v or more. It is very simple and doesn't generate any RF interference which is good for audio...

Really great vibe you got going here. Can you explain this setup a bit?
@SkinnyVampiress
7 жыл бұрын
Thanks. Well, there are a few sound sources.. you can see an old mp3 player that someone gave me, cassette recorder with a tape loop, telephone bell, and some of my analog DIY stuff for other sounds. The sequencer is pretty simple, it's just a clock divider.. And that's it. Everything is mixed in the Yamaha mixer and recorded to the Tascam DR-05.

Any info on the drum sequencer? A tutorial or something? Awesome stuff!
@SkinnyVampiress
8 жыл бұрын
+Pieter Vochten Thanks! the sequencer is just four flip-flops wired as frequency dividers. It's not any step- or so, you just got your clock divided by 2, 4, 8 and so on, and connect whatever you want to this outputs. It's very basic. For example, hi hat on output of clock/2, snare drum on output of clock/4, bass drum on clock/8... It will give some dance patterns =) also this chips have inverse outputs, which allows some variations. In this video, I've connected 7-segment display to show activity on this outputs, and snare on output of frequency divided by 4, and telephone bell on freq divided by 8, with some transistor driver.. bass synth sound (DIY stompbox) seems to be just on first clock output, not divided at all. but inversed. that's it. Ask, if something is not clear, I will try to explain. Sorry if my English is not so good, it's not my native =) and thank you again!

Skinny so, the clock trigger could be any kind of input? For example the click of a Volca Beats.. Do you have any kind of schematic maybe or from something similar?
@SkinnyVampiress
8 жыл бұрын
I don't have any schematics, because it was just an experimental stuff on the breadboard... But yes, clock trigger could be any kind of input. Most simple is to use 555 timer, or sync output of a Volca, I think it will work, why not =) I used some old and outdated IC's out of trash just because I have them but really it can be like CD4040 or any another divider/counter IC, which you can connect to any sync source, and drums to outputs. Or use something like CD4017 which will give steps, or combine them.. search for example "4017 sequencer", it will be mostly sequencers for LEDs but that's doesn't matter, you can connect drums to it outputs, or anything.
