My temperature gauge was stuck on 73 degrees, even when it was 90 outside, so my AC wouldn't cool the cabin anymore than if it was 73 degrees outside. Occasionally it would kick in and I could see the temperature gauge climb instantly, and the air was again nice and cool. So I knew it was the ambient temperature sensor and not my AC system needing to be charged. Your video showed where to easily locate and replace it, total cost $18...saved me hundreds compared to what a dealership would have charged to diagnose, charge system, re-diagnose, etc. Thanks for making a great video!

Replaced and fixed both the sensor and sensor connector because both were missing on my 2016 Nissan Maxima. I had no AC at all even with manual turning it on as someone suggested it should still work, but it doesn't -- well not on the Maxima anyways. It also gave me a change to get in there to fix the sonar sensors and the fog lights that fell into the front bumper. Thanks for the information.....

Thanks for confirming how to test the sensor. As in your video mine is good also but my dash still shows that icy conditions are possible. I am testing the wiring and get 5 volts to the sensor. Is this normal? Sometimes the fault goes away while driving and my Compressor will turn on and cold air comes out. Then it will kick back out and usually I will catch the message popping back up on my dash. I think it's possible that I have a short or bad connection somewhere.

Might be your evaporator temperature sensor. Like the name, it is inside your car on or near the evaporator. When your evaporator gets too cold, it cuts the compressor to keep it from freezing over, but if it is defective it can't do that. But your system will also have a hard time preventing freezing if the system is not working properly, such as if the pressures are off. Take it to a specialist and have them check your pressures first, you could just be low on gas. If fine, then check the evaporator sensor.

this sensor is for auto AC mode to adjust the blower speed, and also to show you the outside temp. it's pretty much never in the circuit that controls the AC compressor. i.e the AC still turns on in zero degree winter (cos not used all winter is bad and wear seals, and heater still works in summer(bleeding air from cooling system).

So if the ac compressor is broken it can cause the ambient sensor to read the wrong outside temp?

No. Compressor engagement is dependent on a signal from the Ambient temp but not visa versa.

That test is no good. You have to know what resistance reading should be displayed for a certain temperature. Not just a change. Sometime those sensors are not accurate anymore and by alot.
