Okay yall I'm a huge David Pack fan myself but he is the one who left. If you are Ambrosia fans then you would know the main one singing on the left is original Ambrosia member Joe Puerta who sang backing vocals, played bass, and was the one who wrote songs with DP. Original member Burleigh Drummond on drums and backing vocals. Christopher North original member on keyboards. Rick Cowling excellent singer that plays their gigs with them sometimes on the right. I love Ambrosia. I love David Pack. You just about have to go to Calif. to see Pack perform. he's more into the jazz clubs now. Ambrosia still travels more around the country and interact with fans more. I know Pack just turned 62. Not sure of all the guys ages but I thing they did a pretty darn good job. Pack still sounds pretty darn good himself. But no one sounds as perfect as they did when they were 26 or so.

Ambrosia as a whole from the start took ALL original members to complete the band. Here, you have 3 of the originals, that continue to entertain the world. David Pack is a top vocalist, and incredible artist, along with the rest of the band. He just does not perform with them at this time. Joe Puerta is a talent also all on his own, and is not trying to BE David, rather playing some incredible bass lines while singing lead on this track. This shows the awesome musicianship! Ambrosia is much more than the ballads and hits, they are a full blown prog band that if you dig deep goes well beyond what people know them as. They are all seriously talented musicians here, with professional backing and careers (outside of Ambrosia, too) - Alan Parsons placed them as harmonies with him, and then had a huge part in launching them, but again it took the band as a whole, not just one member of. Rick is also an outstanding vocalist/multi instrumentalist who has added to the band at times. You really need to always look beyond what you hear on radio-

What’s with the hating about not having Pack on this version? Joe is his own person.. he did a good rendition of the song to his style and still staying true to the beat and timing of the song. I saw Ambrosia with David Pack (Vegas) in 1996.. they sounded great then..and I saw Ambrosia again tonight at the Golden Nugget with Joe singing this song and he did an amazing job, while Ken Stacey sang the high parts.. they sounded awesome as well. This band has been thru a lot and with so many member that came and went, yet 3 of the 4 original founders still perform and in their mid 60s..still sounding great! How many bands can do that today? I saw The Eagles several months before Glen Fry passed away (I’m a huge Eagles fan) and while they sounded terrific, they have changed since the Hell Freeze’s Over concerts in the mid 90s. Ambrosia still sounds terrific today and that’s quite a feat for any band in my book!

True, he has more latitude than previous Perry replacements were granted but he still has to stay within constraints for some bizarre authenticity notion that the band seems to have. So he is never free to "mine his own quarry". Now, this KB player (anyone know his name?) in this video is a different story. When he sings the bridge 3:05 I forget to compare him to David Pack at all. He brings himself to it 100% and although he changes some things it's in a way that is sympatico with the original performance while making a statement that is his own. Tough thing to do. You can hear it in the crowd reaction too. It's the only time they really respond to the vocal. By the way Joe Puerta does a good job on the rest of the song but I catch him frequently trying to "do" David Pack's vocal and it evens sounds a little competitive at times but I have the feeling that if he just sang as himself it would be more engaging. The biggest loss is probably Chicago without Cetera. It's IMPOSSIBLE to imitate Peter Cetera. Here, David Pack is also very hard to replace because he has a good range and most importantly his soulfulness is fantastic. Steve Perry gone is no good because of stage prescence - Arnel can imitate, but he is obviously just a minion to the senior band members, like Adam Lambert in Queen. Queen, Commodores and EWF are NOTHING without Freddie Mercury, Lionel Richie and Maurice White.

The song was cut short I suppose for a commercial - very soulful and a great effort considering the originator of the band and singer is gone.

Joe and Davids voice have always been quite similar, especially when they were younger.

Harmony parts are sorely lacking compared to what they did on the original with Pack at lead vocals. But, one can never go back I guess. Love the Yacht Rock fans in the background. LOL!
