In this episode of the CJ5 rebuild series, we tear down and rebuild our AMC 20 rear end. Having never rebuilt a 20 before, I definitely learned some tricks along the way that will help you with your project. I will cover getting the shafts out of the axle, tearing down and rebuilding the drum brakes, sanding and painting the housing, separating the AMC 20 two part shaft, installing new wheel bearings, and more.
Getting the rear end finished up is another big milestone in the restoration project. The next step is to get the axles back under our frame so we can get it rolling again. Rebuilding these axles seemed to take forever, but I know it will be worth it in the end. Hopefully once I have a roller, it will move a little quicker. I still have to rebuild the T150, so that will be another learning experience as well.
