There are some who say that the America’s Cup is not sailing. They say that in the modern Cup world it’s all push button controls. They argue that since the Cup boats rose up onto their foils that there’s no physical challenge anymore. Try telling that to the four crew that provide the hydraulic power to trim the sails and that in turn keep the AC75s balanced on their two foils as they travel at up to four times the wind speed.
Generating and sustaining 500watts per crew member is a gruelling task that the cyclors have been training for since the 37th Cup cycle was announced.
