The Atchafalaya bridge was interesting the first time I went over it. It's such a beautiful region for fishing! As for the bridges expanding from Miami to Key West, that is an engineering marvel! It's amazing how they're able to hold up against hurricanes and waves and sprays from the Gulf. Granted it's been rebuilt a few times, but it's still an amazing feat!

The first time I crossed it (the Atchafalaya) was apparently just after a hurricane or some kind of event because there were long portions of it with certainly hundreds, and very possibly thousands of dead gators floating belly up along both sides.

The Louisiana 1 bridge is critical to America’s oil and gas industry. The old highway had subsided and would flood regularly, preventing supplies and people from going to/from the port and out into the Gulf, and is the only land route to Grand Isle and Port Fourchon. Fourchon is the primary port for most of the offshore industry. It is in the early stages of expansion north from Leeville to Golden Meadow, as that part of the highway is still vulnerable to flooding.

If you add the elevated distance of the I-55 bridge, I-10, and I-310, you have more miles on bridges (without touching land) than the length of the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway. I've been through Lake Pontchartrain causeway in 2011 and the bridge itself is not that impressive, but it definitely was a sight to see when you're in the middle and can't see a single piece of land in either direction. I drove through the I-10 bridges by Mobile, AL and the one west of Baton Rouge in 2020. The Mobile one was pretty cool with the fact that there was pretty much an exit while on the bridge (to US 98), but as I approached the tunnel, there was some pretty bad traffic. That was the only time I drove through that bridge, but if that's a regular thing, it might be why they want to change something about it. The I-10 one west of Baton Rouge doesn't even feel like you're driving on a bridge at all, and it took me a few miles to realize that right below the highway is water and I was basically driving over and along a river. On the few elevated parts of the bridge, it was pretty cool to see the horizon with the bridge and the surrounding water/swamps.
@jeffreyevers4389

It is very much a regular thing, the tunnels back up to some extent every single work day and during holiday seasons even on the weekend. The Wallace tunnels (I-10) are carrying 2-3 times the traffic they were intended to support ... yes the new bridge is controversial but it is needed along with the new Bayway to allow both residents and tourists to navigate the area without "come to a stop" traffic jams.

The Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel is emphatically NOT in the northeast - it's in the South. Bro! You missed the longest one of them all, at THIRTY EIGHT MILES! If you head south from Ponchatoula, Louisiana, on I 55 to I 10, then east on I 10 to I 310, then south on I 310, you're on elevated roadway nearly to Destrehan, without ever coming down to the surface of the earth for just a hair over 38 miles. Since you included other bridges with interchanges along the way, you've got to include this one. In the elevated portion, there are five pairs of on-ramps and off-ramps, including the two Interstate interchanges. There's nothing contrived about the route, being the logical and fastest one between Ponchatoula and Destrehan.

After New York's Verrazano Narrows Bridge and San Francisco's Golden Gate Bridge, I don't remember what the next longest 8 would be. I think New York's George Washington Bridge and Michigan's UP's Mackinac Bridge are in the next 8.
