There are at least a few pop/rock keyboardists who started out classical ... one other example is the late Jimmy Greenspoon, the keyboardist of Three Dog Night. He too started out with classical intentions (or such were his parents' intentions).

Dick Clark pokes fun of the Southern affect, which I think Dan also has, even though he is not from the South. Maybe besides music he has so much personal (Southern) charm Beautiful on the inside and out for sure.

Really, aside from the late great Dick Clark most folks could care less if Reynold's left in 1972 and, to be honest, Reynold's is the third name so if he was cool with it keep it--I mean Abbott and Costello is not Abbot and Johnston or Rowan and Martin is not Rowan and Jankowski! So, I wouldn't have changed Hamilton, Joe Frank and Reynold's...
