That there is one fine looking man, and a fellow born and bred Aussie. His accent is Australian, but very refined, with a slight English influence, as he spent time in both countries growing up.

Skatejock21 he does! He just took American speaking lessons back in the day and it helped him in his American career. He still lapses back into his Aussie accent when he wants to. Here is a link to an interview he did in 2020 with an Australian interviewer. Not only can you clearly hear his Aussie accent, it is a very emotional interview for him. kzitem.info/news/bejne/1GmttnmfoZiJjGk

He took.voice lessons for an American accent, so he could get acting work. He still battles depression, and it was rather nasty in the 70s as well as his adolescence (tried to.kill himself when he was 17).. He wasn't successful and struggled for money. When he's back in Oz the accent is heavy.

Question: Why is it so much easier for Aussies moving to the States to lose their accent more than any other group of people? English people don't lose theirs. Rick Springfield and Mel Gibson talk just like Americans now

I think what held him back, in the way you’re thinking, was his age, which was 32 by the time of “Jesse’s Girl”, which made him considerably older than a lot of what became his competition, which were acts that appealed to teenage girls, that he had also been on television on General Hospital, and that new wave took over. I think what ultimately hurt him was doing the movie Hard To Hold. The movie didn’t get good reviews and it wasn’t that successful and it ultimately made him overexposed in the minds of many.

He was pursuing a screen acting career .So, he probably had to change his accent to be a viable casting option. Weird thing in Hollywood....they seem to have no problem with English accents...as in English actors with English accents but everyone else is expected to change. Rod Taylor went through all that.

Well Annie, I think your comment is bigoted. I am a Californian that has lived in Australia for 45 years with my Australian wife and Australian children. If I over heard you make that comment about the way my wife and children speak, you will be receiving some firm words from me.. with my well-preserved Southern Californian accent. That is a very rude comment.
