A flashing green light does mean you have the right of way to turn left in some provinces, but NOT in BC. You don't have the right of way in BC!!! In BC it means the light is controlled by pedestrians. Pedestrians can push a button to get the walk light and turns the light red for people driving along the street that the pedestrians are crossing.

I wanted to be sure at least one person corrected this. In Manitoba it is an advance left turn but in BC a flashing green only means that the light is a pedestrian controlled crossing. So if you see a pedestrian approaching they only need to hit a button on the light standard and the light will go amber then red. Typically you will see these in smaller cities like Victoria and is high residential neighbourhoods.

Hey guys Welcome to Canada. Love your bucket list. I think you've got to add a couple of food items while you're up hear. Add Ketchup chips to go with the All Dressed ones(although typically up here kids eat the Ketchup chips at a party and the grown-ups eat the All Dressed). While on the West Coast try Nanaimo Bars from a bakery or pick up a bake your own box from a grocer. They are ewey and gewey chocolate and coconut sugar bombs invented in the Vancouver Island town of Nanaimo. They have made their way into every bake sale and Birthday Party across Canada since the early 80's. Speaking of chocolate pick up some great Canadian chocolate bars like Skore, Aero, Oh Henry and my favorite Coffee-Crisp (dollar stores really are the cheapest for this). And when in Banff try a Bear's Claw from one of the Chocolate Shops. And finally if you're trying a Cesar cocktail (which was invented in Calgary) you should also try Ginger Beef (also invented in Calgary). It is our "universally ordered Chinese take-out Kung-Pow Chicken" dish. Yummy crispy sweet and savory beef in a Mandarin Orange sauce. Enjoy.

We live in Nanaimo, mid Island - gateway to Tofino, Parksville, Qualicum, Courtney … etc .. Easy drive to Victoria & north Island. We love the nature here & outdoor activities - tons of great hiking within 15-20min., as well as BIG hikes within 39-45 min. Kayaking, SUPPIng, fishing. My husband golfs at Nanaimo Golf Club & loves it. It drains really well so they golf all year long. Winter is also hiking, snow shoeing, skiing. SO much to do AND easy access to Vancouver & mainland even for the day (Hullo Ferry) is foot passengers, also Helijet & Harbour Air float planes and of course regular BC ferry .. Your canister looked like a personal one that you carry in your pocket, which, used against people is illegal, however, if you’re planning to go hiking in wilderness, there is a larger canister of bear spray (pepper spray) that you are advised to carry and that you can purchase in most outdoor equipment suppliers. It’s imperative that they teach you how to use it, as well. If you’re just observing bears along the roadside, from within your vehicle (highly advised), it’s not needed. Also, don’t be disappointed if you don’t see a moose, they are extremely elusive, and welcome to Canada!

I also attended the opening of The Granville Street Market. So your video showed me how things have progressed. I enjoyed it because you didn't prolong your segments and you were very well prepared. It was everything I knew from years ago. I had friends who had a house/cottage on Bowen Island. That was a lovely little boat trip we took for a day out and the Captain allowed me to stand next to him during the journey. (in the old days if you looked a certain way you'd be allowed anywhere) All are gone to the big ferry in the sky now. Good video. Just the right length. It's along the road heading to the west coast of the island and Long Beach/Tofino. I've driven as far as Winnipeg and the Tyrell Museum is a must near Drumheller, Alberta. The Gondola in Banff was worth it if it's not cloudy (don't feed the Rocky Mtn sheep! and take a coat even in August). For novelty find a hot springs on your way through BC, there are a few. NO NO NO NO RE FLASHING GREEN!! NOT IN BC!!! As above comment states, you must have a flashing green ARROW for priority left turn. A flashing green light means you have the right to go straight ahead. There is usually a pedestrian button at a light such as that - which when pushed, changes the flashing green to yellow, and then red. A flashing green light in BC is not a signal that you have priority to turn left. 'In British Columbia, a flashing green globe signal is used at a pedestrian crossing or intersection, at which pedestrians have the ability to stop traffic to allow a safe crossing. They may also be used at a drawbridge. The flashing green indicates that the signal is not currently in use.'

Flashing green arrow means you can move in the direction of the arrow without yielding to oncoming traffic, but in BC you must yield to pedestrians even if they are crossing illegally. You should always try to yield to pedestrians, and animals. If you hit one and they are illegally crossing you will not be found at fault if you can prove it. Flashing green (round) means the intersection is pedestrian controlled. In other words, the watch for pedestrians that may be about to press the button to cross, because the light will change quickly.

No pepper spray. Even things like bear spray or dog spray are only legal to carry in context. i.e. if you spray someone with bear spray in the city you better be able to explain why you think you're going to run into a bear in the city. Dog spray is at least easier to explain. That being said, I'd rather fight about it later than not have it.

@@deniseandreed Well, Richmond is one place to go for Chinese food. But didn't you folks eat mostly Japanese food (with modern twists) at the Richmond Night Market? Try the Pink Pearl Restaurant on the eastern edge of Chinatown for dim sum on weekends... you might have to line up after 10 a.m. but it won't break your budget. (You might have to plan on spending some time as they have more than 40 dim sum offerings and it takes a while for those carts to make the rounds!) And there are definitely better places (on any budget) to eat Japanese food than Richmond...
