even though pearl harbour was premeditated by USA actions there is only one thing left that will unite all classes and sides the only question is will it come over the arctic and Canada from the north? or will it come from, surprisingly ironically named, the WESTERN pacific.... Are you ready to keep playing the divisive game. Everyone from the jews and isreal and iran to the arabs to the africans to the Sth American semi communists dictators to half the asian countries and the east EU and Russia just love to see you tearing yourselves apart I am not inclined to speculate who among that list had the know how, the financial backing, and the greatest motivation to make it happen. But lets just say Trumpy's era of abandoning IEA talks with Iran re Nukes, and their very recent reignition ought to make some quarters a little happier, for a time. But apart from that, peeps of the USA, just know you are being manipulated how to think and where to aim your outrage, hang in there, not far to the bottom now. Then its all roses back to the top.

A perspective that isn't often enough given an airing across the Podosphere is the Public Choice analysis of democracy, and specifically of democratic failures. So many of Sam's conversations centre on perceived crises in western democracies, and yet this hugely insightful body of work is rarely given its due. It explains so much, and accounts for so many of the troubling patterns we now see in our political cultures. I've seen the likes of Eric Weinstein, Steven Pinker, Jonathan Haidt grazing up against the outskirts of Public Choice insights, without even seeming to realise they're there, only to frustratingly veer off in another direction. Please, please consider having on Jason Brennan, Ilya Somin, Bryan Caplan or Mike Huemer to discuss these issues. It would add so much to the debate.

The radical left and radical right have the biggest megaphones, and they want to tell the vast majority where to move, but the majority of us are on the same page in the middle. The vast majority of us want medicare for all, free college, higher wages, less income and wealth inequality, sensible gun reform, sensible justice reform, sensible immigration reform, removal of money from politics, etc. I have to say the left is more socially extreme, and yet, we see the right respond trying to argue some sensible points, but then they go past sensible to reversing Roe vs Wade and using transgender talking points into outright laws against the whole LGBTQ+ community, and they will go further if they can. I’ve been in 11 states the past 2 months, for example, and beyond that we have offices in AL, TN, OH, PA, WV, SC, TX, OK, CO. You get the picture. The past 2 years, all I hear everywhere I go is people making fun of Biden. I was just in NYC 2 weeks ago in La Guardia, and no one had a mask on. I saw TWO people during my 45min layover wearing Gadsden flag shirts. I sat beside a couple who lived in NYC for the past 20 years, and they joked about how incompetent Biden is, and how all their family is trying to get them to move states. In Pennsylvania they still have Trump billboards and flags up along the roads. I took pictures of 5-6 of them within my hour drive to the job site. I couldn’t believe it honestly. Out West is majority pro 2A blue collar workers. I had a meeting with the president/owner of one of the companies I had to visit (Oklahoma), and about 30Min into the meeting he’s talking about the best local gun stores, and how much better the company did under Trump. I haven’t run into a single person in my work travels who’s talked to me about LGBT rights. Not one. I haven’t run into a single person who’s telling me how they like Biden. I know they’re out there, and I know my experience is just my experience, but I’m just telling you that the majority of people DO NOT care about all the things you said “we all want to see”. I hear it on the news constantly. But I’ve never heard it in the real world with real people in my travels. I just don’t hear it.

A very religious Republican who gets it, notwithstanding his views on current events in the US. Many things are not even left/right issues but more communal/collective narcissism issues, both in the US and UK. Apologies if discussed later, or elsewhere, but, (if) Sam Harris is strongly against the new abortion laws in the US, perhaps he could elaborate, just as he exhorted fellow liberals to speak out about the riots..... though it was eye opening to us Brits when some Americans blamed BLM for Jan 6.... Maybe some "liberals" were never really liberals. Not necessarily all grifters but very troubled individuals. Sadly, in some cases, it felt very much like a self fulfilling prophecy, but ultimately, it's the lame but ubiquitous "she/he/they made me (or them) do it" defence. They are grown adults, responsible for their own behaviour. Also, "Woke" may have meant something once but now it means diddly squat. It's just used as a perjorative to mock or attack people for absolutely anything so, if I'm a "Wokey Mc Woke face", so be it! 🙂

People can have different opinions on race or Trans issues who are a tiny, tiny minority so not sure why people feel so threatened by them (I'm not saying there are no issues but I think they're overblown). There have always been people who take things too far or are self righteous idiots but now everyone who is remotely left wing, or who can empathise with, or stand up for others, is labelled "woke" (and often not jokingly but angrily and aggressively). It should be clear by now something sinister is going on. All authoritarian types, past and present, portray themselves as the victims and everyone else as the problem. Often supposed examples of "wokeness" turn out to be a none story, or a random person on Twitter saying something daft! Even if a story is true it's often reported as though it's commonplace, planting a seed to get people angry. It's very effective.

And in my own country Labour lost the stronghold of Scotland to the SNP outflanking them on the left(although the SNP have moved to the centre and put the chances of independence in jeopardy as they don't deliver) There is a viable Presidential candidate in the US in the form of Sanders. And he's not even that far left in European terms. My guess is that the DNC wouldn't work with him if he won power though and actively sabotaged his *likely* winning platform. Sam may be as fallible as any human, yet I can't think of a single instance---on Making Sense or elsewhere---where Sam did something that would reasonably cast doubt on his commitment to objective reporting, which is ironically indicative of the kind of journalistic integrity absent in just about every outlet responsible for briefing the public on such matters. His conversations also rarely fail to rank among the most informative on any given topic, and so I often feel "innoculated" from whatever polirizing commentary I'd inadvertently absorb on social media or your average news outlet, were I to trust them instead of Sam to provide the "scoop." I only wish he'd be available to be one of the first to address all current events all of the time but alas, one of Sam's only defects as a public intellectual is that there is only one of him. @@samdg1234 I appreciate your response. I just revised that segment from his conversation with Murray, and while I can imagine why you find his comments frustrating, I’m not hearing anything worth retracting praise for. Perhaps the only thing I need point out is that his opinions on Trump, however detestable or unfair you may find them, have no bearing on his journalistic integrity, which is what I praised him for with my comment. The fact that he may despise Trump more than anyone on the planet does nothing to change the fact he never seems to leave any relevant information out of his conversations or monologues (not intentionally anyway). More importantly, he decries Trump OPENLY, which-to my point-is a hallmark of a fair reporter. It would in fact be suspicious if he expressed no contempt for Trump (or claimed that he didn't hold him in contempt), and if it was instead us who deduced a hidden hatred from what would in that case appear to us as an unspoken, anti-Trump agenda running in the background. This is beside the point but it’s also the case that his reasons for opposing Trump are legitimate, unless you’re willing to disagree that viewing Trump as “an existential threat, given his non-commitment to the most important principle of the survival of our democracy” (i.e., a peaceful transfer of power) makes no sense whatsoever. Even if you happen to think that the election was rigged, I’d hope that you'd at least agree that that hasn’t been demonstrated to be true beyond a shadow of a doubt (especially given recent developments), and that it stems from his commitment to preserving democracy, which I'm sure you'll agree is a noble motive, even if you think his opions are miseld. It’s also worth acknowledging that he admitted to raising his comment on Hunter Biden in the interest of finding some point of disagreement with Murray, and further admitted that he’s “genuinely undecided” on the matter, and that he arrived at the sentiment he expressed with less knowledge on the issue than he has now. To put it succinctly, whatever opinions he holds aren’t evidence of shady reporting-shady reporting is evidence of shady reporting-and only the latter is evidence of ill intent. That's my opinion anyway.
