We took the Jeepney to Fort Santiago, which was really cool. It was cool to learn the history of the fort. It was built in 1571 by the Spanish. During WWII it was taken over by the Japanese and used to torture and put to death Filipino and American soldiers. In the early 1900s it was turned into a golf course. Today, it is a museum. It was fun to see all of the Lego replicas of famous buildings in Manila. Also, the Jose Rizal museum was fascinating. He is a national hero that did so much to lead the Philippines to gain its own independence. He was even martyred because of his work.
We also visited the Jose Rizal park where a tall memorial was built in his honor. Like the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Washington DC, there are active guards at this statue 24/7. There was also a portion of the park dedicated to Jose Rizal that depicted his death and martyrdom. It was cool to read his final speech before he died.
