Of course, there is no such thing as the best German beer, it depends on where you live. from the coast in the north to the Alps in the south, the taste changes enormously. In the north more of a tart beer lager or pilsner with a strong hop taste and in the south more of a sweet or floury wheat beer. In the middle almost only Pilsner as in Belgium or the Czech Republic. And of course everyone claims that their beer is the best. Regards

I agree there is nothing like the best beer. Taste is personal. But just to clarify: sayings belgium is known for pilsner beer... (I understand Stella Artois is a worldwide brand) I think you should visit belgium to understand the variety of beers which are standard in bars. Nothing comparable to Czech (not taking away anything from their pilsner).

@@guinessdraught2758 no problem. I love trying all types of beers (actually all beverages) while traveling. But I never understand the discussion about one pilsner being so much better then another one. We did a blind tasting of about 20 different brands (decent quality, not light pilsner) and the difference is too small. For me it is a trivial discussion not worth have. It is better to spend your time on something else. But this said, there is nothing better then a cold pils after a warm day. Cheers 🍻

The thing about "Hefeweizen" is the yeast (always depends on the amount of yeast) that is on the bottom of the bottle. Usually you pour almost all of the beer into a "Weizenglas" and use a small amount to swirl the bottle so that the yeast mixes with the rest and THEN you pour the rest of the beer into the glass. You will definitely see the yeast mix with the rest of the "Weizenglas". I hope that's explained well enough. :D

Hey Man - great channel - had to get that out of the way first. Expat here (40 years +). You definitely want to travel to München and go to Kloster Andechs. A few miles south of München. Go up the hill to the Kloster during the week (they've cut down on weekends to protect the innocents), go to the Biergarten and have a Doppelbock. Ein Halbes, for your own sake... amazing... have some of their fantastic food, by all means, then slowly try to stand up. If you do go for a full Maaß, this my be a problem... then go on a walk on one of the nearby trails... The beer is fantastic, the setting is like out of a movie. Enjoy!

Märzen is a quite common style beer in the north of germany, it's really not hard to find there. If you want to get into some history of it you will find out that it originally was brewed in march of each year (märz) in order to empty the barrels before the summer season, so it's made of those remainders that have been sitting in the barrel for a while. pilsenerwise i think you did not make the best choice, the rothaus tannzäpfle is very watery for a pilsener style beer. if you can get your hands on a fresh pilsener one day definitely try it. it has very open wide taste, strong hops and is really refreshing. you will not find it bottled as it spoils quite quickly. you can find it occasionally directly from smaller breweries in north to western germany and in bars that care about it. it's quite rare but will guarantee for a really pleasent experience. my favourite one is the ricklinger pilsener. bottled pilsener can be very nice, too. i'd suggest try veltins, it is a bigger brewery but does a very good job. on the more bitter end of pilsener taste there's jever, quite edgy tasting, it's love or hate. out of the hefeweizens definitely try the gutmann. also very nice is the könig ludwig hefeweizen. the schneider you tried is ok, but not quite there. and if you want to try another really outstanding beer: the riegele simco is out of this world. prost!

1500+ brewery’s in Germany, countless beers from world known companies to small regional ones. And all of them are useing only 4 ingredients: Water, hops, yeast and barley or wheat. Any other ingredient and it’s not beer anymore. Next to you, in Böblingen, is the „Brauerei Schönbuch“. Go for the Weißbier and also for a „Jäger Spezial“, they have a nice Biergarten and good food. And!!!! Use the appropriate glass… especially for the Weißbier. There is yummy yummy yeast at the bottom of the bottle, so you need to pour the whole bottle. Also the shape of the glass affects the taste….. and please: foam is mandatory I am available for beer drinking lessons 🍺😉🤘🏼 Harry

Doppelbock is a stronger version of traditional bock that was first brewed in Munich by the Paulaner Friars. Historically, doppelbock was high in alcohol and sweet, thus serving as "liquid bread" for the Friars during times of fasting, when solid food was not permitted. Today, doppelbock is still strong, ranging from 7% to 12% ABV or more. It is clear, with color ranging from dark gold, for the paler version, to dark brown with ruby highlights, for darker version. The aroma is intensely malty, with some toasty notes and possibly some alcohol presence as well; darker versions may have a chocolatey or fruity aroma. The flavor is very rich and malty with toasty notes and noticeable alcoholic strength, and little or no detectable hops. Paler versions may have a drier finish. taken from Beer Wiki

The first thing that strikes me as a German is that you pour the beer into the glass the wrong way! This means that there is no foam, which is very important to keep the taste. The more foam there is, the fresher the German beer is. It is a sign of quality when the foam is very high on the beer!!! If you drink stale beer, i.e. bad beer that has been exposed to oxygen for too long, then it no longer tastes good! It is not for nothing that we still follow the Purity Law of 1516. Where possible you don't know about top and bottom fermented beers?Bottom-fermented beer mostly comes from Baden-Württemberg and Bavaria and is brewed at low temperatures. Top-fermented beer, on the other hand, is brewed at temperatures between 15 and 20 degrees Celsius.

Hefeweizen bottles have to be fully poured out into the glas in order to get the full flavour, because at the bottom of the bottle the yeast="Hefe" has deposited. The pouring technique is that you pour out the beer into the glas unless a small sip, then you slightly shake the bottle with the small sip in it in order to disolve the yeast from the bottom of the bottle and then pour out that last sip with the yeast into the glas and the yeast will then distribut evenly in the glas and you will get the full flavour of that beer. Another thing is that beer is a regional/local thing..I´ll bet many North Germans never came across of some of those beer branches you presented because they have other beer branches in their region....just saying. Also the taste preferences are very variant..in general it is fair to say that in the German North the beer is/has to be way more bitter/tart than in the German South.

Hi Trey, ... ... ... hmmm... ... ... Sorry man, I had to turn off the video after just 2 minutes... ... ... I have no idea where to start... Wrong glasses... Wrong way to pour... Wrong order of tasting... I could not see any neutralizer, such a piece of bread... Let me know, if I have to jump on the ICE to Stuttgart on a Saturday morning to teach you the 101 on German beer culture and drinking? Stay safe and buy your son another ice-cream. Dirk PS: We Germans love to educate other people 😉

German here from the north, who hasn't seen 95 % of the brands you have shown in your video. Therefore, I also can not believe that those are the most popular beers, since most of Germany outside of Baden-Württemberg, Cologne or Bavaria don't really know those beers. We know Krombacher, Warsteiner, Duckstein, Paulaner, and of course Astra, Becks, Holsten and Jever in the north. And that stuff definitely doesn't look like that watery piss from the Rhineland...

What is the best way to say that it doesn't sound mean? Sorry but you really have no idea about beer yet.Throughout Germany there are countless small local breweries that easily beat each of your featured beers.

Noooo no no no... We do not mix sugar into our beer. Never ever. We have the so called "Deutsches Reinheitsgebot" or "German purity law" wich states there are only a handful of ingredients allowed in a beer. Those ingredients are: Hops, Malt, Yeast and Water. That's it, no sugar. :)
