St. Jimmy is a figment of his imagination. A voice in his head. That's why St. Jimmy rarely comes around, and when it is, it's to guide Jesus in a path of as much violence and everything that he can do. In Homecoming, Jesus realizes that St. Jimmy has to go, and releases him from his head. So they were the same person physically, but never the same mentally. Someone fact check me

Kevin's Stuff and Things. I’m pretty sure this is how it is: Johnny is his real name, but in his hometown he’s nicknamed the ‘Jesus of Suburbia’. When he moves away from there, he forms an alter ego named ‘Saint Jimmy’. St Jimmy causes him to do all this destructive stuff. I think that’s right... don’t take my word for it though. Someone correct me if I’m wrong😅

this musical is confusing if i weren’t a green day fan and didn’t know the plot of the album, i would have no clue what was happening rn (all of their voices are amazing though)
@alexdaley7616
3 жыл бұрын
It's actually not that confusing if try not to overthink everything. I knew a couple of the songs from hearing them on the radio. I've never listened to the album. Once you figure out the fact that most of the background cast aren't actual characters, it starts to make sense pretty quickly. That said, it's not a show for anyone that needs a crystal-clear plot. It's a bit like "Hair" in that the songs mostly about feelings and not meant to move the plot.
@baby66596
3 жыл бұрын
I think the plot just revolves around 3 friends who live shitty lives and we get to see their lives play out through the songs but I’m not gonna lie even though I’m a huge Green Day fan, I was confused about the plot when I first learned about the musical.
@nikkikat7824
3 жыл бұрын
I don't think it's that hard to follow. I actually never understood the story line of the album until I saw the visuals. Basically its 3 friends that hate their town. They dream of leaving for better things and finally set off to make something of themselves. Will gets stuck behind because he has a baby on the way. He hates being stuck where he is and thinks the other two are off having an amazing time. Tunny realizes the dream was too big and feels lost. He joins to military because it looks glamorous. He thinks doing so will make a name for himself. Johnny feels abandoned by his friends and the only one that wants what they originally went after. He finds whatshername who also feels alone but he doesn't have the confidence to pursue it. He hits a low and tries drugs. St. Jimmy is just his addiction (why they die when he gives it up) but they give him the courage to go after whatshername. Later she doesn't like what the drugs are doing to him and when she confronts him he chooses drugs over her. Then little stuff here and there but all the guys end up coming home because that's where their lives are. I really like the plot personally

About the camera work: did you expect something like the Hamilfilm? Because the Hamilfilm was shot once in front of an audience, and then many more times without any audience. Such a recording would require the cameramen to get on stage for close-up shots, which can't be done in front of an audience. So as far as filming one actual show goes, this is as good as it could be. You should be thankful that a high-quality recording even exists.

I saw the original production at Berkeley Rep and was blown away. Saw it again at the Ahmanson in downtown LA and then this LA warehouse production. LA has such an amazing pool of great talent. Up close and personal, immersive - leave it to the theatre geniuses to constantly evolve production concepts with awesome talent above and beyond the large-scale versions most commonly seen. Low budget, scaled-back staging forces focus on the music and what the characters have to say as members of this fantastical theatrical world transporting us beyond our ":little selves" to learn something more about life we may not have known or understood before. Isn't that what theatre is really about?. Thank you so much for making this available!

You can't just stand up even if you want to. The people sitting behind you would kill you. It's the same with seats in a concert. If you sit, you sit.

The man who played Tunny's performance during Give Me Novocain was amazing. The high note he hit I legitimately prefer over the original song.

As a theater kid who has seen been on sides of a production, many times over, this show is a nightmare to pull off but so rewarding when everything lines up. It’s my dream show to perform. And as someone who has seen people go though some very shitty things while working on 2-3 productions at once, I’m always impressed with the storyline behind each actor’s journey to opening night. Props to everyone involved, fantastic job!

The performances are great, but I feel like if you don't know green day or the album story, you'd have no idea who any of these characters are or the full story. I'm a huge green day fan and even I had trouble figuring out who some of the characters were supposed to be. It almost feels like something meant to be exclusive to green day fans, which kind of sucks a little bit.

My 13 year old self from 2003 would have probably burned down a building for a chance to see Broadway Billie Joe. Without him? Same thing, just more fire.
