8:00 it's a "periscope", both guys have them, but the front guys one is attached to a mechanism to allow him to fire the rifle without exposing himself.

Today is ''Dodenherdenking'' in the Netherlands, the remembrance of the death, as I am from a newer generation (and my grandparents are not there anymore) I don't have much ''personal'' connection, but I am a history nerd and offc I will remember and be silent during that moment. To be honest, with recent events.. it's much more important than usual I would say. But I will offc also remember the brave people in this hopeless situation, this is such an emotional song imo but so good.

Every year we as Australian and New Zealanders have memorial services at Gallipoli where there is a massive memorial built in commemoration of the fallen.

Temps in summer were around 38C (100F) in the shade. The average minimum temp in winter (Jan-Mar) was -11C (12F). Pith helmet is pronounced the way you would say with.

They sent them to the wrong beach. That’s why they were defeated at Gallipoli

At 15.50 the young soldier with a cap on the right is an Australian called Morehead. In WW2 he would be the Australian commander in charge of the garrison for the 8 months of the siege of Tobruk

My G grandfather was a Kiwi and was at Gallipoli. He was being taken off beach and an officer asked where he thought he was going. In response he took his boot off and poured a bootfull of blood out. Needles to say he got evacuated and met my G grandmother who was treating him and moved to England. So I owe my existence to the fact he got injured there.

The reason why we don’t use stick grenades is because it’s too bulky, heavy and expensive to produce.
