As a Union Berlin Fan i can say that we're probably the Fans that are the proudest of their stadium. We love basically everything about it and almost everyone who's coming as a guest has pretty much only had positive things to say afterwords :) The History of the Stadium is very special and the fact that most of the stadium is Standing terraces is something every Fan wishes for. Also German Fans are usually more football romantics. So most of us tend to like "older" or simpler Designs. Modern Designs are Not very popular, for a good reason tbh. Also German atmospheres are in General much better than the english ones. The english Fans who were making noise were chased away by commercilisation. German Football is regarded as a Utopia for Football Fans. People don't know that the Higher ups are trying to Take the England Route. But Fans Here are fairly successful with the Protests to keep the Sport for the Fans. And I think Corona Made people realise how important the Fans inside the Stadiums are. Union may have a small stadium but actually 75% of it is standing only, they generate one hell of an atmosphere. Also Hoffenheim is a tiny village, the stadium could fit it’s entire population in it 10 times over. 1. Obviously, a lot of stadiums were renovated since they were built. Some even so extensive, they could be considered new stadiums all together. 2. The small stadium at the start belongs to a team, that was propmoted to the first tier for the first time 2019. It's a smaller club with a dedicated fanbase. In fact, when the team had rougher times, the FANS showed up to build a stand that needed to be rebuilt. They organized, got materials, and worked there for their clubs. 3. Germany hosted the World Cups 1974 and 2006. So you can see a lot of stadiums either renovated or built for these events. I'd like to point out Leipzig in particular: It was built for the World Cup, because they wanted one East German stadium for it, and the one in Berlin was in West-Berlin. But choosing Leipzig was controversial, because at that time, Leipzig had no team in I think even the first three tiers, with little hope of changing that (as their best 2 teams were imploding at that moment). It would've made more sense to take the stadium of Dresden instead, which would at least see second tier football on occasion. And if you wanted a first tier club, Rostock and Cottbus would be possible (though neither had the fanbase to hold up a big stadium like that). By now, the Red Bull corporation created a new club and basically bought their way into first tier, inheriting the stadium, putting it to good use for the first time since 2006. 4. Most of these stadiums have sponsorship names, which is somewhat new for Germany (started in the early 2000s, but only slowly picked up stadiums), and extremely unloved. Most fans use the old, "correct" names like "Westfalenstadion" in Dortmund, or "Alm" for Bielefeld. Some sponsors buy the name and then ask ther fans for input, leading to the stadium in Braunschweig be named "Eintracht-Stadion" now. The fans in Nuremberg actually tried to petition the club to name the stadium after club idol Max Morlock, in hopes they wouldn't dare picking up a sponsorship name. The two teams whose sponsorship-names to my nowledge never caused troubles were Schalkes "Veltins-Arena" (the stadium was mostly new, and Veltins was a sponsor for years and years, it just fitted) and Stuttgarts "Mercedes-Benz-Arena", because the stadium was named after one of the founders of Mercedes (Gottlieb Daimler) before. Then again, the stadium was renamed multiple times. Check out the date it was build and guess, who it was named after, when it was finished...
@fennek-ccl

Schalke (Veltins Arena) can open the dom and take out the matchfield be side the stadium. Dortmund has the biggest stadium and an amazing atmosphaer at "yellow wall / gelbe Wand". A lot of the old stadiums are renovated or exchanghed throu newer ones in the last years. Every stadium has it own atmosphear and its really sad to see them empty. I visited the Signal Iduna Park in Dortmund a view times, 2xKöln, 1xHamburg, 1x Frankfurt, 1x Mönchen Gladbach ,1x München, also 2x Tunis, 1x Amsterdam. All nice!

Yeah, like you've gotten beaten up on a little, a lot of these stadiums have gone through some serious renovations. For example, I attended a Springsteen concert at the stadium in Frankfurt back in 1985. And there is no way I can reconcile the difference between the stadium then and now. Similarly, I attended the the two matches played at Stuttgart during Euro 1988. And there is some seating that is definitely the same (or very similar) to what I experienced then, but the rest of the stadium? Yeah, it's essentially new. Now, to bring things full circle, I've attended somewhere in the area of 7-10 matches at the Stuttgart stadium since 2014...and two matches at the Allianz Arena in Munich since 2019. (In fact, I attended matches in February 2020 on back-to-back days in those respective stadiums...Stuttgart on Saturday afternoon, Munich on Sunday afternoon.)

You do realise when they built the stadium in 1958 it didn't look like that it's been renovated

The craziest thing about it is that Schalke with their crazy stadium is going to play 2nd division next season. They are currently last place. Imagine having a stadium like that but not being able to play in the 1. Bundesliga. That really sucks.

@@maximilianvomasta1623 HSV yes but Schalke has an arena with a roof. A stadium for 60 thousand. HSV has a big stadium but it isn't nearly as modern. All the other stadiums got half of the capacity of veltins arena and aren't nearly as modern. It's more like a dome. If you are into American football like the superdome in New Orleans or the new renovated Santiago Bernabeu

Please could you take a look at the French Ligue 1 stadiums. Oh, and if you happen to see plans for new stadiums in said division, don't be fooled by Nantes' YelloPark proposal, as it's not being built.

Dude, don't go mocking the tiny stadium if u don't know anything about it, 2500 fans donated hundreds of hours of their own time renovating and even partially rebuilding the stadium themself learning how to while doing so, others donated blood to get money into the club, union berlin still exists because of the fans and to belittle the stadium means to belittle the fans love for their club. 'nuff said. Watch any history of union berlin videos there are a bunch of those on youtube if u dont understand.

The population of hoffenheim isn’t even 5k people so a 30k arena is pretty huge for them
