Legend "Nick Nat" (Nicholas Naitanui) was born in Sydney to Fijian parents. He also excelled at basketball and track and field events, particularly high jump, and was asked by recruiters to trial with American universities, but declined to do so.

That kick by Malcom Blight @ the 2.15 mark was measured at 82 metres which is just over 90 yards for our friends from the USA.

Gidday mate. Nice to see a Yank taking an interest in our game. I do with your NFL, which is played on our TV out hear. Not all games just a select few each week of your season. I wish to correct one thing that Nick said and that was that he called the yellow shirted fellas (guys) "Referees". No, we call them one of two names - The two chaps running with the game in the middle of the field are AN UMPIRE/S and the two chaps running up and down each edge of the field are called BOUNDARY UMPIRES. They do something that American football doesn't have. When the ball goes 'out of bounds' they then blow a whistle and with one arm straight up to signal the Centre Umpire to stop the game. Then the Boundary Umpire then throws the ball high back over his head and the players jump for it like a centre bounce. They have other jobs too but it would take up too much room. here. I was the Secretary of a major rural city's team in a very large district league and several minor league clubs, for over 25 years. Loved every single minute of the camaraderie, the sport and the socialising with members of other clubs after the game. Rivalry:- We had a saying that "What happens on the field stays on the field." And another, when some joker would call out "Who called the umpire a bastard?" to which one or more would answer, yelling out "Who called the Bastard an Umpire?!" Cheers, from an old Aussie.

Yes I remember it too. Against my team unfortunately. There was a funny joke going around afterwards of Malcolm Blight coming across a fire in a multi story apartment building. A woman was holding her baby at a window high up in the building as the smoke and flames were threatening them. Malcolm called out, “Throw the baby down and I’ll catch it. I’m the greatest mark in the game!” The woman dropped the baby and Malcolm rose into the air and caught it and the crowd went wild. Malcolm held the baby aloft as the cheers became louder and then he did a massive torpedo down the street.

when a player scores his 100th goal of the season or 1000th career goal, that is when everyone jumps the fence and runs onto the field. 😄😄

when Dunstall kicked his 1000th goal about 2 men n their dog jumped the fence that day it would have been different if the game was played in Melbourne rather than QLD

A torp is a type of kick known as the torpedo. Something that adds extra interest to the Aussie footy game is the random bounce of the football. Players have to be on high alert as it can bounce in any direction. Nic Natanui is an Aussie whose parents were born in Fiji, an island in the South Pacific Ocean.

20,000 points is a lot of points..... but probably equivalent to about 900 or 1,000 goals. 2 of the 3 best full forwards ever never got close to kicking 1,000 goals in the VFL / AFL due to career ending knee injuries. The record for a season is held by 2 players at 150 goals . Bob Pratt kicked his 150 in only 18 games.....at nearly 9 goals a game. Pratt played for South Melbourne in the VFL during the 1930's......an incredible footballer who always played drunk ( was an alcaholic ). Peter Hudson equaled the record of 150 during the 1971 Grand Final, but in about 21 games . Hudson would have beaten the record but Cowboy Neale king hit him late in the 2nd quarter, almost tearing his left ear off. Hudson was a soft player in a brutal Hawthorn team, but St. Kilda were just as brutal, bigger and tougher.....Hudson continued and played out the game , but being concussed he couldnt kick straight. In my opinion, Hudson was the best and greatest full forward ever. Because he was soft he was a target and the umpires refused to protect him. He even changed his game completely just to survive, but still holds the record for goal avg per game played. He retired with the knee injury averaging over 6 goals a game, but made a comeback in his home state of Tasmania. Because he was still kicking bags of goals in Tasmania, Hawthorn asked him to play one more game, at Waverley.....without training with the team he flew to Melbourne, then arrived at Waverley via helicopter , which landed in the middle of the ground. He then kicked 8 goals, destroying the Collingwood backline, in only 2 quarters and retired at half time. A couple of years later Hawthorn asked him to play again, despite his age and fitness. He did play one more season, kicked over 100 goals , won the goal kicking again, and achieved the 100 goals for the 6th season in a row ( in a row aa per seasons played ). The next best is only about 4 seasons in a row from twice as many seasons and games. It should be noted.....every time Hudson marked the ball, he was punched in the head from behind.....that was the fullbacks job. Every good team had a back pocket player whose job was to take Hudson out.....anyway possible.

AFL is easy to remember because A is the first letter of the alphabet. AFL is the first ever coded football anywhere. Nic was a brilliant player and that kick was 75 metre’s not 70. You have to watch Mason Cox, Don’t believe in never. He had a 6 figure job waiting for him when he finished College in Texas. Instead he signed up to play for my team in AFL when he had never seen a game.
