“Je suis Malade” was written by famous French singer & songwriter Serge Lama together with composer/singer Alice Dona in 1973. This is based on his own experience and he was the original performer, hence some lyrics are a bit male-oriented (eg my mother leaves me, whiskies, I pour my blood in your body, …). When Serge Lama had a dinner with Alice Dona and told her about his obsessive love that was leading to a road block, she came back home and compose the music in a couple of hours. The morning after, she presented him the music and he wrote the lyrics in … 20 minutes. Serge Lama was the original performer in 1973, it started to be promoted on the radio, and the song was brought to fame only when, a few months after, Dalida covered it. She was an absolute mega star in France, another emotional powerhouse, and this song resonated very much with her own feelings. Her success with this song transformed it into a french classic, and started to make it famous abroad. But it is Lara Fabian that really made this song a very popular song in many countries with her cover in the mid 90s. At that time Dalida had already passed away, but Serge Lama was (and is) still alive. Dalida and Serge were two inspirations for Lara, so she sent an audio copy to Serge of her version. She was unknown at that time in France but he was so impressed with her vocal skills and her emotions rendering that he invited her in France to sing it as a duet. They became good friends. Lara has made some subtle changes to the song that gave it even more power and Serge Lama adopted these in his later interpretations. The 1999 version ("From Lara with Love" Concert in Montreal) kzitem.info/news/bejne/xn6J359qjHmlqI4 is legendary internationally and has attracted many artists to do a cover, even from non french-speaking countries. The most recent ones I am aware of are from italian singer Giulia Falcone, from the korean singer Choi Sung Hoon or from the korean band Forestella.

She is a legend worldwide, was planned to be a big star in the US as well but has been banned due to politics from her own record company Sony to protect Celine domain. She has written and sung amazing english, french, spanish and italian songs covered by the greatests (Barbra Streisand, Josh Groban, …) and by the current generation. She is for instance the absolute idol of Dimash who covered several of her songs. And she still sings amazingly, she just completed a WW tour. Here is a short list of suggestions to start a journey with Lara: Songs she wrote: • Adagio (english version) : kzitem.info/news/bejne/w6eluWGBiH6Hkmk (covered among others by Dimash, Floor Jansen,Dame Shirley Bassey, Il Divo) • You are not from here (english): kzitem.info/news/bejne/t6xuvnqOhIqDf34 • Broken Vow (english): kzitem.info/news/bejne/zIB4rXd_cZOEeGk (covered by Barbra Streisand, Josh Groban, Morissette Amon, Katrina Velarde, Regine Velasquez, Cakra Khan, ….) • I guess I loved you (english): kzitem.info/news/bejne/pq1_k3x_n4WqpIo • Je t'aime (french): kzitem.info/news/bejne/zW5onKaie4GfbKw (covered by Polina Gagarina, Giula Falcone, …) When she covers a song, she often makes it her own. Some amazing covers she made: • Je suis malade (french, song from Serge Lama): kzitem.info/news/bejne/xn6J359qjHmlqI4 • Caruso (italian, song from Lucio Dalla): kzitem.info/news/bejne/o4ZosaKCnp-Fam0 • Perdere L'Amore (italian, song from Massimo Ranieri): kzitem.info/news/bejne/zpmjznecgWuAmYY • Yentl Medley (Papa can you hear me + A piece of sky, chained , cover of her idol Barbra Streisand, english): kzitem.info/news/bejne/241u0pWigX-oq6A • I will always love you (cover of Dolly Parton / Whitney Houston, english): kzitem.info/news/bejne/lZxj3axjrpdpbIo • Love by grace (cover of Wynona Judd): kzitem.info/news/bejne/mYxm1nuOk6qprXo

@@maryscottoconnor9711 somehow it is very close from that. She was in contract with Sony for 2 albums in the US and they completely stopped promoting these. The second in 2004, there was even not a single music video produced. Also apparently ( need to be fully confirmed though, I learned this from some comments but not from a public source), the big US venues had a choice: it was Celine or Lara. They could not have both, per Celine’s staff decision. Celine was at her prime, the absolute megastar, and Lara was a newcomer. They all made the same obvious choice. And Lara could not perform in any of these.

@@ericsicard910 It was so much more insidious and sly than an outright banning or blacklisting. The effect was the same, however, and unconscionable.

@@ItsStephen1018 she had one big hit in the US "I will love again" but it was an upbeat pop dance song that topped the US dance charts for more than one year. Sony wanted to refocus her on the pop dance genre, due to Celine’s staff pressure on keeping Lara out of the ballad genre, Lara refused and Sony abruptly sopped promoting her completely.

Lara Fabian , the ""WOW""" girl Lara has a very beautiful strong velvety voice in all her 4.1 octave ranges , very consistent voice an incomparable breath controle. ""Broken vouw"" is covered many times ... But in French she has a few more ''strong" songs that are never ""covered"" because of to difficult Lara was that time in the same record company as Celine Dion. Because of the team behind Celine did every effort tot ruin the carrier of Lara in the US she had no breakthrough in the US like other Canadian singers as Celine Dion and Shania Twain. Lara had also that time not the great manager an very big songwriters behind her as Celine Dion. Her English song ""I will love again" was many weeks nr 1 in het American bill board of dance music That is why Lara turned her carrier more in French to Canada, Europ , East Europ, Russia and Brazil That is also why she has not a world wide ""english"" hit .....A French song gose very exceptional world wide ....... The next big diva kzitem.info/news/bejne/mK2XtoecknmUhW0 A broatway performane whit the French rock legend Johnny Halliday kzitem.info/news/bejne/sX6tr3pso5-Ado4 A special movie of 51 minutes whit her songs made in Russia: Mademoiselle Zhivago kzitem.info/news/bejne/ppWs14Sdp2mIhXo Lara manipulates her voice like she wants kzitem.info/news/bejne/q5uZtYGImnqCe5g On top of this all is has Lara Fabian a very beautiful personality
