The most dangerous animal would probably be the tick, as that has a chance to give you deceases when you get bitten by one. In terms of bigger animals, none dangerous animals. There are some wolves in the Netherlands again, but those you will not see (they will make sure). An e-bike is a bike with an electric motor (can be in the axel where the pedals are or front wheel axel), which is powered by a battery and your pedaling. It eases the ride and keeps it accessable for more people. Touring the country by bike is by all means a possibility. Bike lanes are available all around the country; the very least, on roads used by both cars and bikes there is a separated path for bikes, to be recognized by everybody, as the usualy are red.

Don't discount the Adder (Vipera berus), the only poisonous snake that lives in the Netherlands. Its bite isn't generally lethal (unless you have an adverse reaction to the poison) but it can be very painful. Another big hazard for car drivers in the wooded areas are deer, as they can suddenly emerge from the trees in front of your car and that can have serious consequences.

In the NL are still many roads with bike lanes as you showed around 17.30. They are more dangerous, but the huge advantage in the NL is that most car-drivers are also bikers themselves so they know all that the biker is "the weaker" trafficer. So the car drivers take care. 2cond point with accidents the car driver is mostly wrong if he/she collide's with an cyclist. Which means mostly the insurance of the carowner is goiing to pay for the damage.

Well to ride a bike is not that easy as it seems here in the netherlands you learn how to ride a bike at the age of (what will i say it's different for each child) 4 or 5 years old. And i think that that is the reason why the dutch people are riding a lot of bikes.Another reason is that on a bike you are very mobile. But if i may ask where is the interest coming from to do so much research at the netherlands ??? The greater city's are overfilled with people a lot of traffic and noise, i am living in a small city in the top of the netherlands in the beautiful provence of Groningen where is a lot of space, the beatiful student city of Groningen. Of course the netherlands has a lot more of beautiful provences such like the waterprovence Friesland they have multipule lakes and loves the watersport, Limburg, Overijsel, Gelderland, Brabant oh my god when i name all of these provences i am realizing how beatiful our country is (now affence to the provences i didn't mentioned) I only can say you're welcome to join well there is so much to tell about biking or about our country that is not to tell in about 10 lines you must see it with your own eyes to get an idea how beatiful all of it is. I it actually a very good idea to travel in The Netherlands by bike, it isn't done by many people especially not by Americans, it will also be a very cheap way to see a lot as hotels in the smaller towns and cities are not so insane expensive as in Amsterdam. And don't worry about bike routes, it is not an exaggeration that there are save routes across the entire country, the most unsafe routes are probably in Amsterdam. Interesting routes are: - Around the IJsselmeer, can be combined with visit to Amsterdam. - 11 city tour (famous skate and sail route in North of The Netherlands) - A tour around the Gooi several towns worth to vist like Utrecht, Amersfoort, Muiden, Naarden (very nice old city centers). Depending how long you can stay and your stamina you could combine these routes. I would bring a backpack and try to find a place that rent out electric cargo bikes.

Thats not a detail nearly ALL roads in the netherlands are designed to keep different modes of transport and assume people make mistakes so the designs (Sustainable Safety) take that into account. So thats why amsterdam is the exception its almost in some areas the worst example of this. The whole goal is to keep interactions between say cars and bike as minimal as possible and if they do have to meet to either make sure the speeds are low or/and the angles are 90degrees. That combined with the culture that any car driver is probably also someone who uses bikes all the time is what makes things safe. Its not by accident (no pun indended) but by 40 years of 'training' and 'designing' since the 1970's.

The most dangerous animals you can encounter are in theory wolves and adders (a venomous snake). However both are very rarely sighted. We got three kinds of snakes but only the adder (dark zigzag on the back) is venomous. I say venomous because yes it CAN kill but if you’re a healthy adult you’ll be okay. Get medical attention anyway if you’ve been bitten by any snake. They don’t have the habit of regularly brushing their teeth so an infected wound is something to keep in mind. That said, seeing any snake (or wolf) let alone being attacked by one is extremely rare. You’re more likely being attacked by a dog (also very rare). A bigger problem are the ticks. Borellia (Lyme) and FSME are diseases that ticks can carry and transmit to humans. Also wild boars roam around in the central part of the country that’s called ‘Veluwe’. Don’t mess with them (they can attack esp if they have a litter). You MIGHT be able to see them around sunrise or sunset but even then it’d be a rare sight. All said and done, don’t worry about the wildlife. Common sense’ll be more than enough. We don’t have any animals that’ll just attack you without a defensive reason. Oh! And the spiders. I should mention them too. No worries there. No spider in the wild is AND venomous AND capable of biting through human skin. Bees and wasps are a bigger problem. Motorways don’t have service roads in the NL. We do have the ‘vluchtstrook’ (flightstrip=emergency lane with flight being derived from to flee). Can’t use the emergency lane except for emergencies or sometimes as an extra lane when traffic is high, but it’ll be specifically indicated as such. Cycling the country is very do-able. Plenty of people spend their holidays that way. Question is will you go from camping site to camping site (carrying your own camping gear on your bike) or are you going from bed&breakfast to b&b? (More options to spend the nights are also available so you want to look into that). In two weeks you can go all across the country making a huge loop. You’ll be able to see the Waddenzee and even visit one or more of the islands in the north, go through the province of Drenthe and see some hunebedden (megalithic grave sites. Not spectecular to behold but like 5 millenia old and if you’re in Drenthe you might as well have a look), the forested hilly central part of the country called Veluwe (I say hilly because to us Dutchies they are hills, to foreigners it’s an undulating landscape). You can even go to the extreme south to visit Zuid-Limburg (the south of the province of Limburg). There you’ll find the provincial capital of Maastricht, the least Dutch looking city of the country. To the east of Maastricht is the South Limburg hill country. Beautiful AF but more challenging on a bike. If you find yourself that far south you may want to visit the cities of Aken/Aachen/Aix la Chapelle (Germany) and Hasselt and Luik/Liège (Belgium). They’re close to the Dutch border.

There are no wild big predators in the Netherlands. Statistically the most dangerous animal is a cow I think :D (not really) There are some vipers (only type of wild venemous snake in the netherlands), but there are only 3 people who died from a bite since 1885.

In fact, the Netherlands has no really dangerous animals at all. Only the Viper lives there, but I have never come across it in all my life. Since 1 year a single Wolf has found its way to the Netherlands, but it is more of a threat to sheep farmers than to people. It is absolutely possible to cross the Netherlands as a bicycle tourist. Cycling maps are available for every province (scale 1:100,000 or larger) and the whole of the Netherlands is divided into a network of (tourist) cycling nodes. All equipped with route indication signs. Moreover, the Netherlands is a flat country, which makes it more windy, but with the exception of the province of Limburg it has hardly any hills and the hills that exist are rarely higher than 100 meters in height.

Most dangerous animal in the Netherlnds?, i think the Wolf. There are some wandering around on the Veluwe, they got lost in Germany and ended up on the Veluwe.

We have some animals that are posible dangerous. Like the wolf, the adder ( snake), a tick that gives lyme disease, wild pigs might be dangerous when they have baby's. We have also bee and wasp and other stingy insects overhere.

Of the domesticated animals cows and dogs are most dangerous and cause most victims. Of wild animals the most dangerous are roe deer and wild boar running in front of your car. It is rare but it happens. The bisons, feral horses and red deer are kept in fenced nature parks, so they won’t cause traffic accidents. The wolfs are too scared of humans and only eat a sheep or so sometime. The most annoying wild animal is definitely mosquitoes and horse flies. Also ticks might carry the borrelia bacteria causing Lyme disease.

The most dangerous is I think the horse or the cow. You can also run into a wild pig or even a wolf nowadays. But a crash with a horse or a cow is most likely and dangerous, however rare

There are some vipers and wolves in the east, but I never saw one myself (I'm 58 years in the Netherlands now). I think the most dangerous would be deer or wild pigs crossing the road in front of your car. Fortunately the biggest animal I ever hit was a peacock.

your idea to do a tour of The Netherlands per bicycle: It's possible in theory but as you're not accustomed to long bicycle tours I think it's probably overambitious so not advisable. Trying it on an e-bike would be less challenging but would probably still make your body very sore spoiling a lot of the fun. There's other considerations of course and I don't want to completely dismiss it immediately. At the very least I'd advise you to not rush into it. (and yes, we do drive on the right side of the road in all of Europe with the exception of the UK, Ireland and possibly Malta, I'm not sure (about Malta). Definitely in the UK and Ireland they drive on the left, please don't ask why LOL) Giving your bicycle tour some more thought: Another option could be to have a nice long vacation here travelling the country by train with a (rented?) bicycle. Taking a bicycle with you on the train is very common here and it would also allow you to experience our public transport system. You could just visit several cities/towns and have a bunch of smaller bicycle outings. I'm sure there's plenty of people subscribed to this channel who would love to show you around their local area and help you safely learn about riding bicycles here...There's many excellent yet affordable Youth Hostels all over the country that also cater to adults/cyclists. Our hotels are notoriously expensive and not always great, especially for someone "used" to American hotels, hospitality (industry) and culture.

I agree! Trains are almost as frequent as the NY metro and get you to any major city. Buses go to every village. Bicycle rentals can be found everywhere and take one in a smaller city, where there is less traffic. Hotels and B&B's are more expensive closer to city center, and in big cities more than in villages. Car rental is also available and a US license is valid. Do not rent a car while visiting cities, parking money is high and parking space limited. Highways are one of the safest in Europe, with good road signs, so you wont get lost.

I totally disagree, he is American and probably has just two weeks of vacation including flight etc he has probably only 10 days effective in The Netherlands. He is not coming here for two of three months, but he has a similar budget as what we would spent in two months, those small town hotels are about €50 a night but that doesn't really add up if you only stay 10 days. Same with taking the train, if he rides a bike he can really enjoy the landscape and little towns, It woud be stupid to spent hours sitting in a train and only see the city center and nothing in between. It would be the equivalent of driving a motorbike across the US versus taking a plane and miss everything in between. The "in between" might not be very interesting to you but it is for a foreigner that really likes to know the country. He seems like a healthy young man, I can't imagine he has trouble cycling a few kilometers a day especially if he rents an e-bike. The only risk he takes it with our weather, with a bit of bad luck he has rain his entire trip, in that case he could still use the train.

From 11:40 that's where I live. That lake that you see, with the "beach" is one of the places the children can swim. It's very shallow for the first few meters. As you can see the cycle paths are separated from the road for cars. So it's quite safe for the cyclists.

This following comment is actually a response to the "Comparing my American Life to the Dutch"- video, but something strange happened and it ended up here instead---------->Hi Localia, and everyone! Wow, so much to respond to in this video. Where to begin? You actually said it yourself already: We definitely have our share of problems over here. One of our problems IMHO is that we love to criticize others but very much dislike being criticized ourselves (as a country/people) and we just loooooove hearing how perfect we are. Sounds obvious probably, but even though you already stated in your video that you know that The Netherlands isn't perfect: I have a feeling that you're still romanticizing how "great" our country is. We do love to pretend that we're the best country in the World and you may be making this too easy for us.. I feel I'm about to write an essay here, cause very much to respond to, so before I do, I'll just let some other people react first. I may get blasted for daring to say that we're much "better" at sharing our criticism of others than receiving it (something we love to say about the USA and "Americans")... (would kinda prove my point I guess) let's see... Hey!!! Are you moving videos around or something? This isn't the video I just responded to! I'm confused now...
