Jess, you say we're lucky to have such scenery here in the UK, but we're also lucky to have you and Chris here, contributing so much with your enthusiasm for being here. I can tell you of another American memorial in a pretty unlikely place. I live in Sheffield, and in Endcliffe Park in Sheffield there is one such memorial with a "Stars and Stripes" on it. The facts are that on 22 Feb 1944, a B-17 bomber, "Mi Amigo", of the USAAF was returning from a mission heavily damaged. It found itself for some reason over the city of Sheffield, and in the poor visibility of a February day came upon a large green space (Endcliffe Park) in the middle of the city. The pilot decided to attempt to land the aircraft in the park and descended to do so. He then noticed children playing in the park and at the last moment aborted his landing attempt to avoid the children. The aircraft crashed into trees in a wooded area at the extremity of the field. All the crew were killed. A memorial to the incident was made and each year there is a service of remembrance to the crew. For a number of years now, it has been maintained by a guy called Tony Foulds. He's about 87 now and keeps it clean and in good repair and if he's there he'll talk to you in his broad Sheffieldish. Oh, and Tony... he was one of the kids under 10 whose life was saved by the pilot pulling up at the last moment.

Thank you both for letting me see what I missed. One of my friends is a bike/ car enthusiast, and he has a straight 4 Harley, a BMW motorcycle and last time I spoke a Bugatti. I must catch up with him soon. Why don’t you visit Sherwood Forrest? Is that too far? Thanks again both. Beautiful video! There are several USA linked memorials across the UK. The JFK memorial is at Runnymede, the location where the first version of the Magna Carta was signed. JFK's sister, Kathleen, is buried in the churchyard of St Peter's Church, Edensor, Derbyshire. Had she and her husband not been killed in an air accident, she would have become the Duchess of Devonshire. The Duke and Duchess of Devonshire's (family name Cavendish) family seat, Chatsworth, also in Derbyshire, is well worth a visit.

Hi again you two. Pleased to see that you had a lovely day out and that you had some decent weather, despite one of our worst Julys for years. 🙂 Well, I wouldn't be me if I didn't give you a few pointers so here goes: The word "Quaint" has different connotations here in the UK than in the USA. I know from my time there that is a term of affectionate praise however it can sometimes be construed as a derogatory and demeaning one over here. So best not to tell a Brit that you think their house is "Quaint" as they may take it the wrong way. 😉 Fun Fact Time: Prior to the outbreak of World War II very few onions were actually grown here in the UK. Most were imported because they were cheaper. For example, the Channel Islands were a main source of supply. After the fall of France in 1940 and the occupation of the Channel Islands shortly thereafter those sources were obviously cut off so British farmers started growing them. Now of course it takes time for a crop to be ready for harvest and for some time onions were in very short supply. Even to the extent that there are tales of them being put up as prizes in Charity Raffles*. 😯 Our weird British place names caught you out again I see. Norfolk is pronounced "Nor-fuk" not "Nor-foLk". Similarly, Suffolk is pronounced "Su-fuk", not "Su-foLk". Thank you for another great video. Looking forward to seeing more. 👍 * : en.wiktionary.org/wiki/raffle

I was confused at first, why was the Harley monument in Cambridge and not in Angus, Scotland? Then I remembered, it was Arthur Davidson whose father came from Angus. In a strange twist of fate, his mother came from a place in Wisconsin called Cambridge. I had no idea that the fathers of both co-founders were British.

Hope you’re not too sore! Anyway, I think you might enjoy a trip to Ludlow, near the Welsh border in the West Midlands. Its a town deep in the countryside, with a castle (I think its one of the oldest in the UK), and lots of amazing old buildings, with loads of pubs and restaurants. It just has a unique atmosphere, everything feels slower and quieter, like going back in time. They have a food festival some time in September, held in the castle grounds next to the main square, which can get quite busy. Highly reccommended. Cheers, enjoy your travels. 🍻

Hi folks. Thanks for cheering me up, following the gloom of yesterday's football (soccer) result. Well I didn't think that Littleport was particularly quaint, but you are always so positive! The Harley monument is very interesting, what a find. As a result, I have been reading the history of HD on Wiki. Was Chris a biker I wonder? The husband of a colleague of mine years ago, bought his Harley from a dealer in the US, and rode it home himself. Well, except for the ocean bit! The war memorial was also unusual, clearly an original plaque re mounted on a modern structure. O gosh, what a lovely walk along the Great Ouse, and one I really miss. When are you going to give narrow boating a try? Just to the right of the antique centre is a really lovely teashop, serving all sorts of teas and cakes. Do give it a visit, but you may have to queue to get in. I didn't know about PYO sunflowers. It seemed to be great fun, although 50p/bloom seems expensive! Another great day out thanks x PS did you notice the classic American car that passed you in Littleport?

hi there, theres 3 sites down here in surrey that may interest you two, first, the air forces memorial in englefeild green, egham surrey, it over looks runnemede and heathrow airport. just a short walk down from the airforces memorial, down a wooded pathway is the JFK memorial, this piece of land is american soil, it was given to the american people for all eternity, and about a mile or so from the JFK memorial is a little plaque, in a field which is where the signing of the magna carter took place. a very signifcant place in english history, its where the powers of the ruling monarch where striped from him and given back to the english people, a government and parliament was formed, it is the birthplace of modern british democracy.

I have never heard or even seen of a sunflower pick your own farm! And now I want to go to one! I love sunflowers and have tried to grow them and have miserably failed! They are supposed to be so easy to grow but hey…. I just cannot get them to grow bigger than a 6 inch skinny shoot! Yet, I can look out of my front room (living room) window and I can see the back garden of the house opposite over the road…the owners have a 6 foot tall garden fence around their garden and I can easily see bright yellow sunflowers - seven foot tall at least! Bouncing around and weaving in the breeze and it’s like they can see me and are laughing at me at my pathetic attempts to grow their brothers and sisters in MY back garden!!😳🫣😥🤬🤣 Anyway, just to say, do not be frightened of the Bumble Bees - they are unlikely to sting you, they are just too busy collecting the pollen - they only sting if provoked or tormented - and even then they are just likely to give an angry buzz and fly around, not landing on you, just as a warning. They won’t hurt anyone, unless they are threatened. I was potting up some hanging baskets in my garden and one little stripey fellow was landing on some of the petunias I was planting - I just let him mooch about - with me taking care not to stab him with my trowel! 😳. He really was a “busy little bee” and it was lovely to watch him so closely. You are going to have some lovely and happy memories to take back to the USA aren’t you? Would you like to here for longer?
